If you have raised your scores from 1,600's to 2,100+ please share what methods you used to increase your score and your story of preparing for the SAT. I'm new to College Confidential. Trying to join the community. I haven't taken the SAT yet, but have done a few practice tests and appear to be stuck in 1700's. =[ my goal is 2100+. Am I being a little too ambitious?

I would say your improvement will primarily depend on two factors: 1) the time between now and when you plan to take the test and 2) your level of dedication. If you have a weakness in one subject, I suggest spending the most time on that subject until it becomes your strength. Use the Blue CollegeBoard book, since that book was made by the actual test makers. There are a variety of strategies people use in their studying, but practice is key! Some don’t study SAT material and do well only because they have “prepped” indirectly through other ways. For example, lots of 800 CR scorers LOVE to read and have been reading all their life. As a Math 800 scorer myself, I know preparation for math contests was an integral part to my Math section success. Good luck!

I started at a 1500 and have raised it to high 2000’s to low 2100’s. And the ^ is completely right. Do 1 practice test every week, read good books, study vocab, and do dr chung’s math book

Hey bob. Thank you very much for posting. Well the thing is. My scores appear to be very inconsistent. My first diagnostic test I scored a 630 reading, but high 500’s in Math and Writing. My second test I scored 670 Math and high 500’s CR and Writing. Third test I scored 660 writing and high 500’s in other areas. I don’t understand. My scores appear to fluctuate a lot for some reason. This may sound obscure, but I actually enjoy doing SAT practice, but cannot allocate time to practice due to lack of time. I have 4 APs and 3 honors/accel classes. Do you think it would be possible to raise my score to a 2,000 if I practiced and study for a month straight. Like Christmas break or something?

@DWang, did you use direct hits for vocab? Also how long did it take you to go from 1500 to 2000?

what vocab book did you use and what was your study plan?

Hmmm… strange. Try looking at the grouping of questions that might be given in your score. By that I mean, the category of the questions. Perhaps those tests might have had more ratio and proportional questions than previously and you are weak in that area. Or perhaps the passages in CR were more scientific than literary and you might be weak in comprehending the complex passages given by scientists and so forth.
