After looking at all of the other forums, I want to be at Stanford even more.

Ahh I totally agree. Stanford is my dream.

Yessss....:D

and you're asking this in the Stanford forum?

What other forums have you been looking at?

Actually I don't like the Stanford forum on this site much. It's not very active. But who cares...it's STANFORD. It's in the BAY AREA. Near SAN FRANCISCO.

Yes, I actually think much more highly of Stanford because it is Stanford, than I think of Stanford because of this forum. If this forum were my only guide, I'd be no more impressed by Stanford than by Carnegie Mellon (a good college, by the way) and less impressed by Stanford than by the U of Chicago. That's why I asked the question I asked. I think the three most impressive CC college-specific forums are those of Harvard, MIT, and Caltech, and that is why I post a lot on all three of those forums.

I like Harvard's forum as well. I like molliebatmit's and Ben Golub's posts on their respective forums, and I really liked last year's Caltech posters, but this year I wasn't particularly taken with any college forums. I did like some Yale SCEA posters but then again I'm biased lol.

I wish Stanford would get some actual admissions officers on this forum.

We've tried asking for a mod so many times, but CC isn't giving us one. :( But you know admission's officers look at this board? I know they look, I'm just not sure if they're posting, looking at it thoroughly, etc. :)

Here are the top forums, in terms of number of postings:

CC postings as of 3/10/07

As a matter of fact, I have noticed that Stanford is the best. Thanks for asking!

Now that he has joined the thread, I will say that one of the reasons I think highly of Stanford is that Sly Si is there. But, seriously, this forum could improve if there were more discussions of student life and academics at Stanford and fewer chances threads.

fewer chances threads.

TRUE THAT! I have stopped responding to chances threads because, in some ways, they're all the same. I don't mean that hopeful students aren't unique; I mean that they're all pretty qualified, and I have essentially the same advice to give to everyone. I can't be super specific because I'm not an adcom member, so everyone gets the same general advice. I have rarely seen a specific, meaningful comment on a chances thread because there's not much we observers can do.

Bring on the student life questions!!! I know those tend to pop up more after the regular admissions have been sent out...

^Agreed! :) I feel bad for having posted my own chances thread when I first joined.

LoL. Yeah... I know that people are just nervous and want some assurance. But really... there's not much we can say aside from the general "focus on ECs and grades, show passion, write good essays, demonstrate who you are".

Good luck to the current applicants. I'm going to start a student life thread to help this forum rise to the level of the college it is dedicated to.
