Has anyone ever been accepted to an IVY or top tier school with a GPA under a 3.0?

I was just wondering if anyone did or knows of anyone who has. oh yeah, this person can't be known for sports.

I'm sorry to say this but it is very unlikely for an IVY to accept a prospective student with less than a 3.0 GPA.

It's happened, but VERY rare.

^^^yeah, and unfortunately the only people it happens to are either
A.Celebrities or B. Nationally ranked sport stars

or C. (like our president) Scion of a powerful family

^^ ok, it's fun to take a jab at bush once in a while, but comon, Andover doesn't even have the traditional GPA.

Harvard says explicitly it doesn't have a minimum GPA requirement, but what kind of classes are you talking about? Taking challenging courses is very important for getting ready for any of the more competitive colleges.

Are you talking unweighted or weighted? Apparently in Dartmouth's class 4% of the kids had a GPA below 3.0 unweighted.

I'd also imagine this is true for some other schools. However, it is very rare, almost unheard of for a kid to get into a top school with this kind of GPA. Mostly because if a kid couldn't get a B average at a high school, what chance do they have of succeeding at a top tier institution?

i don't have a gpa under 3.1. i was just wondering if there were any miraculous stories. ha ha.

Yes, it happens. I've actually seen non-URM, non-celebrity, non-athlete examples. It is obviously rare, though.

wait.. unweighted or weighted? I know a kid at my school had a 2.8 UW but he took every AP class offered (except AP Calc AB) and when he exhausted those in his sophomore year, his junior year was at a local college (stony brook, I think..) and he ended up with a much higher weighted GPA. He graduated after junior year and went to Dartmouth.

sure happens but for explicit reasons its not luck of the draw

Not less than 3.0 but just slightly above. I definitely know
one non athlete, white, non-legacy admittee without
any national awards to a top 3 IVY this year.

The applicant had perfect NMSQT, SAT I and SAT II
scores though.

oh. great. ha ha.

Just don’t count on it.

you give me hope MIT 012

know someone white male, 2.7 got into ivy’s, is now at dartmouth, class of 2012
