Has anyone ever been rejected after receiving an LL??

I got a likely letter from an ivy a few weeks ago and I've been telling people (if they've asked) that that's where I am headed for sure next year.

As the official decision date is approaching I'm beginning to regret that decision in case something goes wrong. Has anyone ever got an LL only to be rejected?? thanks

My understanding is that the things that would cause a LL candidate to be rejected are the same that would apply to every student after admissions: academic honor issues, legal troubles, significant grade drops.

LL = Admissions Letter = no guarantee of matriculation if you become a felon or indifferent student or cheater; otherwise, you’re golden!

hjr, no need to hold back on telling. You’re in. Just be compassionate to your fellow classmates who are going to have to wait a loooooong time before they can share their news. People will appreciate you maintaining a low profile about this and will admire you all the more for NOT oversharing the news.

A couple of years ago this topic was debated on CC. In the end, nobody could ever point to an actual case where a LL recepient had failed to be accepted, except in cases of academic dishonesty, criminal acts, etc.

Essentially, they’re a reliable early acceptance.

Consider it the same as an ED. Does it mean you can go to the bank?-- yes, so long as YOU don’t screw up.
