has Anyone ever been surprised by their ACT/SAT scores?

When I did my first SAT, I didn't think that it was that bad... IT WAS THAT BAD

When I took the ACT today, I thought the reading and science sections killed me. But then again, is it possible that I somehow got good scores on those sections? I mean based on the reading discussions, I felt that my answers mostly correspond to other people's and on the science section, I finished with spare time, even though I had to guess on a few...

So, has anyone ever felt bad about a SAT or ACT that they totally bombed it and then receive a fairly nice score?

Yes, when I got my June scores back, I was super surprised… I was expecting a 31-32 and got a 34

I took the ACT in June also, and I was surprised. I expected a 30-31, but i ended up gettina 33, with a 35 on reading even thought I got a 29 on the reading section on the only practice test that I took. :)

my act scores have always surprised me. the first time, i got a 35 on english. the second time, i got a 31…
the rest of my superscores also jumped around each time, so i always ended up with a composite of 34

First time i took the ACT i left feeling really bad, i thought i had bombed the science and that my composite would be like a 25. Got my score back and found out it was a 30, i was prety pleased.

When I took the ACT in Feb 08 I was completely surprised by my 36 on Reading. I was rushed on reading when I took it and somehow only missed one question.

I feel like more people are surprised by their scores then aren’t. The test is curved, so when you come out of a test thinking you did terrible it is entirely possible that you actually did good compared to everyone else. This happened to me when I was expecting a 27-28 and got a 30, then a 30-32 and got a 33. It also happened to a friend of mine who was expecting a 28-31 and was shocked when he got a 34.

For whatever reason (I guess it has to do with the curve), ACT scores are far harder to predict than SAT scores.

Yeah most people are surprised at what they get, and from my experience I find that most people underestimate their score by 1-3 points.

Got a 28 on my first test, retook it and got a 32.

Definitely. I took the September test, and thought i got a 32. ended up with a 35 :)

I was extremely surprised on the April test. I had already gotten 34 in February but I thought I absolutely bombed in April. I thought I got about a 28. It was so bad I considered asking for my test to be shredded. As it turns out, I got a 35 :)
