I changed my full legal name recently and need to get it updated on my ACT account before I can register for another test. I saw a short address to this problem in their FAQs, wrote an email to them, and the reply I got was a little confusing about what exact documentation I need to provide for them to accept the change. I think what he said is I need to email a copy of a court order, driver’s license, or birth certificate.
In all other cases of updating my name I’ve had the privilege of doing it in person so I know my documents are safe and any fees are covered, and it is faster. However this isn’t an option with ACT.org. In those former scenarios they also required to see the court order AND one of the two latter documents. So I’m surprised the ACT would accept the court order alone, in equivalence with the other documents, since it is the plainest with no sensitive information. I’m even more surprised that they would accept an email of any document, because a picture is easily forged compared the material document.
My big question is however, is it safe to scan a copy of my driver’s license and email it to them? I have never done such a thing before because that is a major no-no in protecting identity, but I suppose the ACT is trustworthy? I’m hoping to hear from someone who has actually been through this with them, did they accept only the court order or was your driver’s license safe with them?
