How many days notice do you have to give the office? I just found out that my school has holidays this Thrs. and Fri. so I would like to schedule an interview this Monday for either of those dates or Saturday. Any help? Thanks.

How exactly do we signal we want an interview? I went on the online application and selected the box, then saved it, but will that do it?

You have to call and set one up. Chicago interviews are on-campus-only.

Yeah, I wanna go on campus. Olo, have you gone?

on-campus only? so internationals = no interview? :(

=/ Sorry, Banedon. From the looks of their site, I don't think Intl's get an interview?

Nope, I haven't. A plane ticket to Chicago would kill me right now, and I have school to worry about.

I'm not sure all interviews occur on campus. A recent request went out to alumni in the NW asking for volunteers to interview prospective students. You may want to call the school and check.

My son had an alumni interview off campus in 2004.

S interviewed on campus in June.

don't sweat the interview. As I recall, they are nonevaluative, and kids get in all the time without them.

My S was admitted without an interview.

Here is the link on interviewing - scroll down a bit for Alumni Interviews.

They do mention that international interviews may be available.

Alumni interviews are available. International interviews are available in France, Hong Kong, South Korea, Singapore, and the UK. These interviews ARE evaluative, and informative for the interviewee.

threefloyds,

Do you know what evaluative means? It means they are required as part of the admissions process. It is pretty clear from the admissons link that Chicago's are not.

Evaluative means that the interviews are used to evaluate the applicant.

I think they may be somewhat evaluative even if not required: from the website -

"Interviews are not required for admission into the College. However, we encourage you to have one so that you can learn more about the University of Chicago and we can get to know you better."

I am pretty sure the notes my son's interviewer found their way into his application folder. Remember, you may submit an arts portfolio or research paper to Chicago. Neither of these are required, but may be used to add depth to your application. If the thought of an interview bothers you, you don't have to do it. My son interviewed on campus, and thoroughly enjoyed the discussion with his interviewer, a Phd candidate in philosophy.

As I have mentioned before, my S was admitted with no interview, so I'm not sure how much weight interviews are given.

Right, they don't penalize you for not having an interview, because they can't offer interviews to everyone. But if you do have them, they are evaluative.

Do you think they generally help your chances?
