Has anyone found out about UROP yet?

I’m pretty sure the answer is no, but someone on twitter yesterday said they got into the program, but when I DMed them they didn’t answer.

According to my D, it is a rolling admission. Last year she found out mid-summer, but others found out earlier.

For those who applied by May 23, they will hear back by June 6th

For those who applied after that (and until June 27th), they will hear back by July 11th.

So yes it’s possible that someone may have heard back already.

I haven’t received any news yet, and I applied by the early decision deadline.

Good luck to both of us in the waiting game!

Oh good! So I should hear back tomorrow since I haven’t received anything so far.

Same here, haven’t heard anything yet.

Sorry to be annoying, but does anyone happen to know roughly what time we should expect a decision?

According to the Facebook group, some acceptances have been released today.

My D just got accepted. Good luck to all who await their results.

I was waitlisted. Does anyone know the chances of being accepted off the waitlist or any tips for finding a research position on my own?

Does anyone know how hard it is to get accepted in general to UROP?

@viv1632 ask early and ask broadly. Email professors within departments that interest you about whether you’d be able to get a spot in the fall. Also, you can check the UM student employment site (google it), and you can find research positions available through that way too.

People get research all the time by themselves. UROP only makes it more convenient, it doesn’t bar students from having the opportunity to find their own research.

I got in today!

My daughter was waitlisted, but she was accepted to MRC last week, which I thought was part of UROP, so…weird.

@angelami UROP is a part of MRC, so that is indeed weird hahaha. So she shouldn’t need to worry about anything

@angelami That’s strange - I have always heard that MRC is a lot more selective than UROP overall - but congratz to her!

Selectivity for UROP is not always a good way to view it as opposed to fit. The type of research you are looking for plays a key factor as the hard sciences are going to have more projects to be matched to than say the social sciences.
