Does Vermont give good fin. aid for out of staters?

i havent gotten mine yet but i did get a letter saying fin. aid would be ready soon. it didnt say how they would be sending it so i honestly have no idea. i hear theyre pretty bad about giving money out, especially to out of staters. my friend got her package already and she said it was the worst one shes gotten so far : (

My D did get a letter about 2 weeks ago with info on how to check her financial aid online.

Strange, I still haven’t heard any word as of yet–which is strange because UVM’s site says that Financial Aid notifications will be sent out mid-late March. I’m sure it will come soon, but I’m just anxious.

So, UVM doesn’t offer much financial aid to OOS? That’s dissappointing. I thought UVM was supposed to be a Best Buy type of school? If it doesn’t offer enough to make it worth it more than my pricey liberal arts colleges, I don’t see any incentive to attend!

DD mentioned something to me about an email she got but she said it was just a small grant and the usual $5500 unsubsidized Stafford Loan. I’m not sure that’s right, since none of her other schools have offered any kind of federal or institutional need-based grant so I’ll have to remind her to forward me the email. Maybe they just repeat the merit award in the letter and I can tell you that was 1/10th of what her lowest offer was from private schools, and 1/3 of what her other public OOS choice offered. It’s really too bad as dd would have like to go to UVM and I think it would have been a good fit for her. Oh well–“Groovy UVee” isn’t meant to be I guess.

My daughter’s FA was just posted. We are OOS and package was better than we thought!

I am an OOS FA was very poor!

S is OOS and got a surprisingly generous FA package. But not enough to compare to the one from Loyola Maryland that met full EFC. But very surprised with Vermont package, since based on this website we expected almost nothing.

FYI, it seems that fin. aid awards get revised. My daughter received a $5000 Dean’s scholarship with her acceptance. We didn’t contact fin. aid at all, but just this week, she got an email saying her award had been updated. She was offered another $6100/yr out-of-state grant. That makes the cost less than her first choice school, but she has already decided to go elsewhere.

I got an email a few days ago telling me how to check my FA status online on their website.

I’m OOS and I didn’t get a very good package at all. An honors college scholarship, a presidential scholarship, and an OOS grant-- but that still leaves me with $32,700 in loans each year. I actually got a better FA package from NYU (of all places) so that’s pretty ridiculous.
