yeah, i got it. do you think everyone on the waitlist got it or just some people?

That’s what I was wondering. Columbia extended the waitlist for some people, and turned down the majority. However, probably everyone who’s still on it got it. Still, I don’t think that if everyone got it, Poch should say things like “Should an opening occur, I would like to offer you admission,” since it gets people’s hopes up that there’s a good chance they’ll be admitted if one or two spaces open.

I know how it feels to be on a waitlist (come on brown!!) so I sympathize with you guys. I believe email you got is a generic one sent out to everybody; all five waitlisted kids from my school got it.

oh no. i didnt get that email!

can someone who has gotten the email copy and paste it here please? i’m really worried

"I apologize for my delay in communicating with you and hope that you havent grown too frustrated with us. I am writing to provide an update. Currently, our freshman class is full but there remains the possibility that a space may still become available.

Should an opening occur, I would like to offer you admission. Although I cannot guarantee an outcome, we certainly will move to get you clear information as quickly as we can and will communicate by phone or email to minimize delay of news. If financial aid and scholarship support is a concern, please know we will continue to provide aid to the full extent of demonstrated need and continue to make admission decisions on a need-blind basis.

You may have seen some of the many recent newspaper articles and late breaking news about many colleges and universities offering, in some cases, an unusually large number of places to students from their waiting lists. While this has not been the case at Pomona , we know this year that things may change and in the admissions world, dominoes sometimes fall that may provide an opportunity in the Pomona College Class of 2013, as well.

If you are interested in remaining active on our waitlist, email me at admissions@pomona.edu as soon as possible with the information requested below and with ENROLLMENT POSSIBILITY in the subject line.

Please be sure we have emailing and telephone contact information you would prefer we utilize should a space become available. I know we are asking you to hold on a bit longer and I am very sorry for the uncertainty of the situation and, again, thank you for your patience.

Sincerely,

Bruce J. Poch
Vice President and
Dean of Admissions"

It seems like they should have sent you SOMETHING, be it this email, or otherwise… Wait a couple days for a letter, then email an inquiry.

thanks logorrhea. i still havent gotten the email though.
i emailed them 2 days ago saying that i’m still interested, but i did not write “enrollment possibility” as the subject and requested info since obviously i did not know. i hope that doesnt make them think i’m very careless or irresponsible. are the requested info just your email and phone number?

I got a letter in the mail releasing me from the waitlist :-/

The requested info is everything asked for on the initial card that we sent in to tell them about our wish to be on the waitlist. So, email, high school, phone number, name. But I just told them in the email that they already had all the info, so I wasn’t going to list it again.

arrowhead, sorry about the news but i’m sure you’ll do very well and be very happy at your second choice.
also, i was wondering when you received the letter because i got neither the email nor the letter.

i got it today, and i live halfway across the country from pomona.

just got my official rejection letter

oh, wow, they’ve already started working on the wait-list? I didn’t know that one could get rejected from the wait-list before summer melt season…

i guess there won’t be much summer melt for pomona

I got the email…but I’ve been out of the country for the past 2 weeks and only just sent my reply in today. Oh well. I never thought so much could happen in 2 weeks that would have to be done when I get back! Note to self: always ensure internet access for future trips!

^sigh. it’s official- got my rejection letter today. pomona’s freshman class is full. the waitlist won’t be used this year.

go cardinals!!!

ah, I hate finding out these types of things from CC! Oh well, I think my friends will be the most let down since I’ve gotten so excited about where I’m going

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/pomona-college/711038-has-anyone-gotten-off-waitlist-yet-3.html

Oops.

Where will you go if you don’t hear from Pomona, lioness1120?

Is it worth a friendly call to the admissions office to check in?

I’m heading off to Tufts right outside of Boston. And to be honest, I let Pomona go a while ago just so I wouldn’t be heartbroken if I didn’t get off the waitlist. I knew it was a long shot to begin with though I am still disappointed since I consider Pomona to be my dream school but I think I’ll be really happy at Tufts as well. As people keep on saying to me: we all end up where we’re supossed to go and everything will turn out fine in the end.
