The only mention of it is on my UCSD acceptance financial aid package, where they say I have an "estimated" 12k coming from cal grant. On the cal grant website, it's still in progress. My UCLA package doesn't even mention an estimate from cal grant.

Has anyone gotten anything back yet? What did you get awarded?

MANY PEOPLE BELIEVE THAT THEY SHOULD BE RECEIVING A CAL GRANT ON TOP OF THE MANY GRANTS THEY HAVE ALREADY RECEIVED FROM THEIR ADMITTED SCHOOL, HOWEVER, IF YOU HAVE ALREADY RECEIVED A GRANT FROM THE SCHOOL ITS MORE THAN LIKELY THAT THE CAL GRANT MONEY WAS AREADY INCLUDED IN YOU GRANT AWARDS…

AND IF YOU QUALIFY FOR BLUE AND GOLD, AND RECEIVED A GRANT OF AT LEAST 13K…THEN YOU HAVE ALREADY BEEN AWARDED THE MONEY TO COVER YOU TUITION…DONT EXPECT A SEPARATE ITEM LISTED AS ‘CAL GRANT’

@ samurai: I was denied Cal Grant A,B, and C for the 2011-2012 year (I’m a Fall 2011 admit) My UC Grant ($678) and University Fee Grt Group 1 ($1074) did NOT include the Cal Grant. Don’t assume things you don’t know about others’ financial aid packages. And when I said “no”, I mean that on the Cal Grant page, it says that my application is still in progress, even though the site mentioned that it would take about 4-6 weeks for results, and it’s been more than 6 weeks already. The majority of my financial aid money ($10.6k) comes from my Entering UG Scholarship.

And what’s with the caps? You don’t need to yell. :/

Samurai: Cal Grant is not just a grant that can be added to meet Blue&Gold. Cal Grant is a program itself that trumps all. It is considered a primary grant if one receives it, not something to be casually added on to meet the promise of Blue&Gold. It does satisfy it, but it is not something granted for the purposes of meeting it.

Also agreed you need to turn your capslock off. What you did is considered shouting in internet terms and is quite rude.

CosmicBubble: Cal Grant is a set amount. It is not a sliding scale grant like Pell is. If you meet the income and asset ceilings, then Cal Grant (if awarded) covers all systemwide fees regardless of where one falls below the income and asset ceilings.

haha, samarai has the cap key mania. anyway, i don’t think the california budget has been settled yet (soon anyway). so we have to wait for that before they release the results for many of the calgrants. good luck dude. whatever your estimate is now, will probably stay just about the same regardless of calgrant. between calgrant and the blue and gold plan UCLA will estimate what money you will receive. what i am sad about is that UCLA under estimates our “cost of attendance” so we cannot really borrow enough money to eat. but hey, i am thrilled that my tuition and fees will be covered. i love california!

there is no single answer for this. if you are under 80k you should get Blue and Gold providing you filed your fafsa and submitted GPA verification with Calgrant. remember if you are going to a UC, it does not even matter if you get calgrant because blue and gold should cover those under the 80k. calgrant stress comes if you are attending a State school which does not have blue and gold.

calgrants are based on many things: whether you attended high school in california, GPA, submission dates, did your parents attend college, age of student, year of high school graduation (or ged), etc… etc… so there is no single answer for your question. but the calgrant staff is great and they will answer your specific questions if you call them. they are wonderful and want kids to receive the grants.

I am a transfer student from CC to a CSU and my cal grant status is still " Application Awaiting Processing". I am glad im the only one. BTW I have never received a cal grant before, would I be guaranteed a cal grant since I am transferring this Fall?

If you met the Cal Grant application requirements and qualify for a Cal Grant, you’ll receive an award letter, also known as the California Aid Report, or CAR.
If you’re applying for a Cal Grant Competitive award (you aren’t a high school senior and you didn’t graduate from high school the previous year or you plan to attend a California Community College and missed the March 2 deadline), you should receive a CAR by the end of May.
