Has anyone heard anything yet?

Athena, yes that’s correct. My daughter was accepted to the school but not the program last year and her account continued working until she got tired of watching the chatter between MT’s on IC Peers. Since she was labeled accepted it was a little awkward. She canceled it. It’s kind of a terrible system and really means very little because final decisions about where to attend are still down the road. Many of those students don’t end up in the class. Also halflokum is correct. Based on last year, I would expect this process to go on for a while. We had two friends audition this year but both are already out. A daughter next year. Ugh!

AthenaL, My D did not add an additional option. She only listed BFA Acting as her only major. I remember asking her did she at least want to write down a 2nd or 3rd option, like creative writing (which she enjoys) but she did not. She is looking for a conservatory acting program. I agree with you - that a student should always list a 2nd and 3rd option and that will give them a better chance of getting accepted. It’s nice that Ithaca even offers that option. All of her other colleges did not offer that.

This system sounds both torturous and tortuous. My sympathies to those involved!

I just really wish they would let us know our statuses in a way other than little hints on the website. I would much rather see “Sorry, you’ve been rejected” than seeing my major of interest has changed or my account has been disabled completely!

Athena L, my D did not declare a second choice and a few days ago we checked myithaca and this was similar to the message she found (it was actually longer than this before, this is what was up just now):

Your myIthaca account is unavailable at this time. If you have questions, please contact the Office of Admission at 800-429-4274 or 607-274-3124.

So I called and was told that she didn’t get into the program. If you received that message, I would just call Monday - they were quite nice about it really.

As of right now, there seems to be 33 acceptances to the Musical Theater on MyIthaca!

Where on myIthaca can you find this info? I searched in IC Peers under “Major” for Musical Theatre, but can’t seem to find where these acceptances are. Where did you see these, ICdramageeks?

Really? 33!? At my audition they said they accept about 35 hoping for a class of 16 for the MT major. Are you sure they are all MT or a combo of MT and Acting?

I believe ICdramageeks is assuming that accepted MTs are anyone whose status is marked as accepted, whose discipline area is shown as theatre arts, music is an MT. It isn’t a combined MT acting as there is no way to know that and you only get to be one or the other. You also cannot know any accepted MTs that are not voluntarily on IC Peers so the number is far from exact.

It is not as easy to guess on numbers for the Acting BFAs from what is presented in IC Peers. Unless I’m mistaken, a person would have to note that their major was BFA Acting in IC Peers (which they would do manually). You would have to look through everyone who is accepted whose discipline area says: theatre arts and hope that they bothered to write in their major. But even if they did write it in, it doesn’t mean that is what they were accepted for. They could have applied for BFA in Acting, but got accepted for BA Theatre.

Yeah, I figured when she said 33 MT accepted that it was really more like 33 theatre arts students accepted. I know when I look at the theatre arts majors on IC they include: MT, Acting, AND Theatre tech students who have applied and set up an IC peers account.

Actually no I think ICdramageeks does mean 33 MTs accepted that one can see in IC Peers or a number close to that. The 33 is not about theatre arts in general. If you count that the theatre arts acceptances, the number is much bigger.

yeah, I worded my post incorrectly, but I know what you mean.

Yes, I meant 33 acceptances to the Musical Theater PROGRAM (forgot to add that little word). I only counted those whose disciplines included both Theater Arts and Music. Granted, there may be those who got accepted to Acting and those who also auditioned for Vocal Performance. But between that and those who are not on IC Peers, I’d say the number is fairly accurate. And if someone is wondering, although I did not count, I opened all windows of those accepted and it was quite even between those with only Theater Arts and those with Music as well. I believe people accepted to majors such as Tech also have a Computer and Technology or something of that type in the discipline field.

Is anyone else still in Ithaca limbo?

I am! It’s quite annoying.

Got accepted today!

How did you find out??!

Yay ICdramageeks!!!

And if you learned of the acceptance via mail, was it a fat envelope or a thin one?

Congrats ICdramageeks!

my D is as well but she called the school the Thursday before break and they stated that they had just received her act score so I guessing they needed to run her through academically which isn’t an issue with her. So I am hopeful to get some positive news soon—if they didn’t want her wouldn’t they just send rejection letter even if they didn’t have her act score. Does this valid. This is such a tremendously hard process. Hopefully it will end with a happy ending.
Annoying because this is one of her top choices.
