Below is the answer from Robert, an admissions counselor in the CCPA office about the separation of the BFA MT and BFA acting programs:

"Thank you for your interest in CCPA. Decision letters will be emailed April 1st.

This is accurate. The musical theatre students will take the same acting classes
as our acting students and they will also have plenty of opportunities to do
straight acting in their classes, but the main stage plays are for the acting
students and the musicals are only for our MT students.

However, the faculty at CCPA are keen on preparing each student for any type of
audition outside of school. Our theatre majors are exposed to dance, acting, and
singing, and the students also take specific performance art classes like
Chinese Theatre and circus class. Really, what we are trying to do is prepare
them for any type of audition they may come across. Most, if not all of our
students, graduate and perform in both plays and musical theatre as well as film"

That sounds pretty great, actually. I hope my son gets in.

Uggh everyone keeps talking about these great tweaking and conversations they had with their Roosevelt auditor, and mine just asked me to have a seat and asked me “Why Roosevelt?” and I started off saying it was my top choice school, and he got a different expression on his face- I wasn’t sure if it was “Oh, well that’s fantastic” or “Oh, I’m sorry. I’m so so sorry.” Anyways then I probably babbled on like an idiot for a while and then he just thanked me. It seems like they were moving kids in and out pretty fast on the day I auditioned.

I’m so nervous because my dramatic piece was probably the best I’ve ever done it, but my Shakespeare (which I’ve been working on for two years and is normally really solid) was totally just average and now I’m worried that choosing to do Shakespeare when we didn’t have to may have bit me in the butt. Did anyone else just have a short chat with their CCPA auditor?

And 8 more days guys! We can do this!

I don’t think you can read anything into the length of your interview. Hang in there. Go to a movie or something. Get some exercise. see some friends. breathe. We’ll all know soon.

Well I auditioned for a show to take my mind off of things, and though I got a pretty decent part but rehearsal doesn’t start until April 1st! But I have work and Doctor Who to make this week go by quickly. :D

I’m not a Dr. Who fan, although my brother is and goes to all the conventions. But I was looking at the cover of Entertainment Weekly, which for some inexplicable reason we have started to receive in the mail, and saw the Dr. Who cover and the reference to your screen name on this thread and the name of your Dr. Who character. Had that “ah haa!” moment. I actually thought your name was Oswin Oswald! :)

I wouldn’t be at all concerned about your audition. I’m hugely impressed by your Shakespeare audition, and I would guess as a transferee applicant, an auditor would expect your audition to reflect more prior training than most of the freshman applicants, and would welcome some well-done Shakespeare. I’ve always told my son anyone who can do Shakespeare well can do anything well.

Also, my son had auditioned at the yucky Depaul audition the day before, and ANY friendly response from his Roosevelt auditor was a huge improvement over that audition–and I think that was my son’s reaction, more than that he’d had a particularly “interested” auditor. I’m positive he never asked my son why he was thinking about Roosevelt–I don’t think my son was asked to sit down and chat at all–that seems very encouraging. And he wasn’t with the auditor all that long–maybe 10-15"…? Don’t really recall, because there’s also that period of time they are waiting with a student to enter the audition room.

My son’s audition was also one of the first on this particular day and there was only one other student waiting for an audition when he was there, so the auditor might have had a little more time for “tweaking” (I don’t think it was any more than asking him to do one of his monologues a little differently) and he might have been more relaxed than later on in the day when appointments were backing up. I don’t think it means anymore than that, quite frankly. My son was just thrilled he wasn’t getting barked at or cut off during his monologue.

An auditor can be gracious and friendly but still be thinking the student isn’t really a good fit, and is just being a nice person, and also seemingly less receptive and still recommending that a student should be accepted. Just can’t read anything into either scenario.

Everyone will land in the school where they are meant to land. I personally think it is less about the school, program or role one hopes for than about the people you meet where you end up, who can be the most important connections to other opportunities in life.

Also, my son did a Shakespeare monologue, too. So, perhaps we’ll all go down together?

Wait was this NYC? We were there in the morning, too. I wonder if our kids met each other?

We are in Chicago.

Ah, well, good luck. Did you like the facilities?

We only saw the (gorgeous) lobby and the floor where the audition was–very nice, very clean, updated, spacious. CCPA is in the heart of the Loop in Chicago, on Michigan Avenue, across from the Art Institute, stone’s throw from the lake–very beautiful. The only thing I don’t like about its location is parking–parking is steep, even the parking meters (if you can find one) aren’t cheap. But the location is amazing.

My son wouldn’t go on the Roosevelt tour to see the classrooms and housing because he didn’t want to fall in love with the school and then not get accepted. So he’s obviously hoping he will be scheduling a tour soon.

We’ll all know next week!

I’m really hoping we have a reason to come check it out soon.

If you all had gone on the Roosevelt tour and seen the view from those dorm rooms/study lounges, you definitely would have fallen in love! My husband and I wanted to apply there ourselves after that! ;-)

Good luck to all on April Fool’s Day!

That’s good to hear. I looked at the outside of the dorms on Google earth and it looks pretty good.

Have to say I ran into an amateur singing group at a tavern in VT on Saturday afternoon, bunch of elderly hippies, it looked like, all singing sea chanties and folk songs and what not. There was something so reassuring about hearing people singing purely for pleasure, without any competition or cuts or judgment…just cos it feels good to sing. I’ll be glad when this is all over and our kids can focus on the joy of what they do again. (I know it’s always competitive, but I hope it’s always a joy, too…otherwise why do it?)

StageMom: I WISH my name was Oswin Oswald, but I’m pretty sure I’d already be famous just on cool name points alone. It sounds like you’re from Chicago too, is your son going to C2E2 comic convention? Tell him to say hi- I’ll be the short one dressed as (surprise surprise) Oswin. Also, if we both end up going to CCPA I’d love to chat with him before we show up. (That actually goes for everyone on here! Making friends as a transfer can be hard! )

I also didn’t want to tour the campus, because I knew I’d wind up longing to go to the school even more. But I’m only 45 minutes out of Chicago, so if I do get accepted, it will be really easy for me to go tour the school. I hope we all have a reason to come back and visit! :D

That’s such a cool story Jkelly, and the reason why I like Roosevelt because although the Theatre department is competitive and challenging, it’s easy to step away from that all in a big city like Chicago and see street musicians or artists painting in the park or what have you. It’s such a lovely city.

***just read it was your brother who loved doctor who…lol sorry, it has been an interestingly hectic morning for me. Well still tell him to say hi if he’s going to C2E2! And I’m super serious about all of the CCPA admitted meeting up if we all get accepted! :D

Son just received acceptance email from CCPA :)

Break legs everyone–hope everyone’s news is good.

One of my son’s friends just got her acceptance email to CCPA in the dance emphasis program. My son hasn’t heard about acting yet.

We are assuming that no news is bad news at this point. Glad he received his acceptance to his second choice today.
