I applied to the film major and got deferred whats the deal here is it just a nice way of saying no or do i seriously have a chance? I wrote them a letter on why I should be accepted and will send in extra stuff to add to my portfolio. Anyone else deferred and than accepted?

Deferral is not the same as rejection! Schools have a limit of how many they are willing to take in the early round and so if there are applicants that have what it takes to be admitted but they can’t extend offers to all of these, they hold onto some until they have the full applicant pool in the RD round. Some who are deferred ARE accepted in the RD round and some are not. In other words, you are still in the running. If you are rejected, it’s over for you at Emerson. So, in your case, you still have a chance.

Waiting anxiously to hear from Emerson :-D

My D just got this over email…

Thank you for applying to Emerson College. I wanted to take a moment to let you know that we mailed our admission decisions today. Depending on your location, you should receive your letter within one week. If you are an international applicant, it may take up to two weeks to get to you.

Please note that it is our policy not to release admission decisions over the phone or by email.

You will be able to view your admission decision online beginning on tomorrow, March 16 at 5:00 pm EST. Decisions will be available on eCommon. If you forgot your eCommon login name or password, or have not yet created one, please view our Check Application Status website for more information about eCommon accounts.

I just got that too! AH! It’s all happening so fast!!! Just all the colleges are posting stuff, all at once. :O

D received the same email. This is really torturous!

I also got that. Is the decision that will be posted tomorrow just for academics? Or does Emerson do both academics and theater decisions at the same time?

I believe it is both at the same time.
They either say, You are accepted for theatre, or you aren’t BUT you can still do this… blahblahblah
OMG IM GOING TO DIE.
we find out today
ahhhhh

Waitlisted. Agh. Sucks.

I’ve already been accepted to Wagner, Fredonia, and Nazareth, so at least I have somewhere to go if the waitlist doesn’t work out.

Good luck to everyone else!!

how did you hear?

Waitlisted too! how many people do they waitlist?

My D was accepted for the BA program in Theatre Studies. Am not sure if it’s better to be waitlisted for the BFA or accepted to the BA…

D got rejection from Emerson, but the odd thing was the letter said she was an applicant for Early Decision so I put a call in to admissions just to be certain.

Tinydancer you can log onto ecommon the letters that went out in mail yesterday are posted there. Break a leg! Hope you get better news than D did!

i got rejected

My D is waitlisted, but I’m not sure what she is waitlisted for.
Her first choice was BFA Musical Theatre, and her second choice was BFA in Acting. There is also a BA in Theatre Studies with an acting emphasis that they said some kids might be offered if they didn’t get BFA program – although they said it was competitive to get into the BA in its own right and the BA was the first choice of alot of applicants.

So she may just be waitlisted in general. Does anyone have a waitlist for a specific program?

Everyone I know who applied was wait listed. It seems like a lot of people on the wait list…ah well. It’s hard to really rely on the wait list because they said they would notify you by June 30th if a spot opens up. Most colleges want deposits by may 1. for me, it’s probably not worth the gamble…I love emerson, but I guess it just isn’t meant to be. Congrats to all accepted!

My D did not get in , but her friend at school did (BFA- MT)

To mtguy in post 57: Most wait lists do not have movement until AFTER May 1 when colleges will find out how many students they yielded in the class. At that point, if they haven’t yielded enough to fill their slots, they will start making offers off the wait list. This is true at all colleges. Then, that takes time for those people to reply and it can go into June. But if you are interested in Emerson or any school where you are wait listed, you should stay on the list BUT you MUST accept an offer from one of your admitted schools by May 1. Then, AFTER May 1, if you do get an offer from a wait list to attend, you CAN accept that offer and then you forfeit the spot you held at whichever school you chose before May 1. That is how it works and it then has a ripple effect because if you then forfeit your spot at the original school, it opens that slot to someone on a wait list and that is why it can continue into June. If you do accept an offer off of a wait list (which usually does happen AFTER May 1) and give up the original school you committed to, you will lose the deposit. Hope this helps as you appear to believe that you have to hear from your wait listed school prior to May 1 and that is not how it works. There is no “gamble” as you must commit to one of your accepted schools before May 1 and not hold out for the wait list school but you CAN attend the wait list school if offered a spot in May, June, or July and then give up your spot at the original school. Colleges expect this to happen.

nbmom…
(I know someone else rejected today and then someone else rejected for a BFA but offered a BA)
