A net-ID is an ID assigned to every enrolled student at NYU which allows them to create their NYU Home account. The Home account gives our students access to a variety of electronic functions such as University e-mail, Office of the Bursar records, and registration information. Please note the following privacy statement on the NYU Home page:
"Access and use, or causing access and use, of this computer system by anyone other than as permitted by NYU are strictly prohibited by NYU and by law and may subject an unauthorized user, including unauthorized employees, to criminal and civil penalties as well as NYU-initiated disciplinary proceedings. The use of this system is routinely monitored and recorded, and anyone accessing this system consents to such monitoring and recording."

Applicants who attempt to utilize technology at the University to obtain an admissions decision, knowing that we do not notify applicants of our decision via the internet, may be compromising their opportunities for future enrollment at NYU.

colleges do this. For example, I am still waiting for a decision at a different university... and once my app was received, I was given an ID number which allowed me to set up an email address and gave me a "MyAccount" type page. Also, this allowed me to create a facebook account under that college.

Wow so then even if you were accepted and then the admins detected that you were prematurely entering your info into ITS, the decision can be reversed based on that alone??

If true I feel thats too big of a punishment for an overeager applicant.

Maur, when I spoke to the admissions office, they didn't mention that I had been accepted and then my admission was revoked because of the "use of technology." They said they simply did not have any more room and actually encouraged me to reapply once I obtain more credits, so I don't think that accessing my net ID prematurely was the reason I wasn't accepted. To the rest of you, good luck and don't be freaked out if you've tried to gain access to your net ID. I don't think it's really that big of a deal.

did u ask them why did u get a net id then??

also anyone else out there who were able to get a netid but then got rejected? please post ur stats and if u called adcom and what they said. also please give a time frame of events

as i said in a previous post, i called yesterday morning and was told that a decision has been made on my application, and they will mail it to me soon; didn't receive anything in the mail today. The lady said she can't tell me over the phone.

I will probably get it this week, i am ANXIOUS though

I don't know why these schools, especially top programs like Stern, haven't gone to the emailing system yet. It's faster, provides less anxiety for the students...

i think people are taking this "if you check for your NetID, you will blow your chances" thing way out of proportion. I highly, highly doubt someone's acceptance would be reversed or compromised simply because they checked that site. Let's stop that rumor.

I'd have to agree with you Leo. People are blowing this way out of proportion. Revoking an acceptance solely because an applicant tried to check their decision by logging into the system is simply preposterous.
