enywho, where are u transferring from and what year are you, also what program???

:( I got rejected. But possibly accepted.
Even before getting an acceptance/rejection letter I get this email:

Dear X:

We have finished our review of transfer applications for the College of Arts and Science for September entry. We received a record total of 1,850 applications for only 85 transfer spaces, and needless to say, we are unable to offer admission to a substantial number of highly qualified students whom we would love to see enroll at NYU.

You are one of the highly qualified students for whom we do not have a place. However, we have an alternative that we would very much like you to consider. We would like to offer you the opportunity to enter the College of Arts and Science by spending your first (fall) semester at our campus in London, England, and then coming to the New York City campus for your second (spring) semester. If you agree, you will be offered admission to the College, with the proviso that you begin your studies in London, and when you return to the United States for the January semester, we will guarantee housing in an NYU residence facility.

Of course, we strongly encourage all of our students to spend a semester studying abroad, and while most students typically begin their studies at our New York City campus before going abroad, in each of the last several years we have made this offer to a number of transfer students who have very successfully enrolled for “study abroad” in their first semester, and returned to complete their studies in New York.

I’m sure you’ll have a number of questions for me, but let me suggest that before you call me you check our website at www.nyu.edu/studyabroad/london to see what we have to offer you in London.

I urge you to think carefully about this opportunity. Having said that, space is limited, and is first-come, first-served, so I hope you will be able to consider the possibilities soon.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,

Whats the point of this? Are they just trying to forcefully increase the statistics of how many of their students study abroad?
Whatever even if I was accepted I would't go really. I don't even know why I applied...it was my dream school for the most part of HS before 12th grade so I guess thats why. Oh well.

Thats crazy though, 85 our of 1850. Thats a little less than 5% acceptance rate! I didnt know it was that competitive. Oh well goodluck too the rest of you.

yikes. i'm thinking i got rejected simply because they only chose 85 people from the transfer applicant pool. time to apply elsewhere.

...better get started.

wow thats a first.

Anyone know what the stats are for the other schools? (stern, etc)

what gpa would i need if i attended cc, and wanted to transfer to nyu or rutgers?

whoa, that is crazy! Though, I will admit: A semester in London would be dope. Interesting thought about NYU forcefully increasing "abroad" stats. Would London have been more expensive? Or would the tuition have been the same? (did they provide any more details?)

i don't believe that nyu only took 85 out of 1850, its more like, they took like 400-500, and only expect 75 to enroll

http://www.nyu.edu/studyabroad/london/expenses.html shows the expenses.

I guess it would cost around 25-30K for ONE semester. My currect school (Baruch) is less than 2000 a semester...haha good luck trying to convince me with going to NYU now.

edit: You are probably right bball87, but I think its more around 300-400. Oh well doesnt really matter. I called them today at 4 but their office was closed.

jacknjill -- what were your stats?

are we talking about NYU? because on my acceptance letter to Stern it said this year's class was selected from an astonishingly diverse pool of over 4,500 applicants.

Are you mistaking columbia for nyu?

hey gglage, how many acceptances out of the 4500 applicants for stern?

ggalage:me? No. Thats not for NYU as a whole, its only for CAS.

alas, can we ask the rationale for rejection or attempt to appeal it at all ?
