Has Anyone Here Been Waitlisted?

If so, does your unofficial transcript show up?

My status changed to "we have reviewed your application...." and my unofficial transcript shows up with my student number and my major and class. Two of my friends have been waitlisted and their transcript do not show up also.

Does this mean that I got in? Or does someone out there who has been waitlisted have their unofficial transcript showing up?

Thanks a lot

I personally know of three students who have been waitlisted, none of whom have a loaded unofficial transcript. I have, however, heard of reports of students who have been put on the waitlist, yet their transcripts still load. The best choice is not to rely on the transcript as a notification utility and just patiently wait for a postal reply from the admissions office.

This is an e-mail a counselor at my daughter's HS received because so many applicants had not heard back from the UW (we are in Washington State and many people apply to UW from this high school). It provides insight and possibly good news. I'm thinking that a wait-list situation is not such a bad thing in this environment where we have so many people applying to 12 or more schools!!

Here goes:

Good morning,
I am always wary of sending communications out on April 1 for obvious reasons, but I'll risk it for the sake of sharing with you hopefully useful information.

The UW Seattle has finalized, with very few exceptions, all autumn 2008 freshman application decisions. Starting today and going through Thursday, we will send out all remaining admission, invitation to the waitlist, and denial of admission notification letters. These actions will affect about 3,500 applicants. (The remaining 16,500 frosh applicants have already heard from us.) Thank you all for your work and support.

Allow me to raise a couple of practical items. No doubt, some of your students and their families will express concern, shock, or even disbelief about their admission decisions. As you know, we are approaching the top of the demographic 'boom' -- 20,000 freshman applications at UW Seattle represents a 12% increase over last year. Even with a frosh class of 5,500, these numbers necessarily create a more competitive year. Thus, some students we would have admitted last year are being denied or invited to the waitlist this year. Nonetheless, we are always willing to review decisions if sufficient cause exists. Instructions on how students can request a review are at http://admit.washington.edu/Apply/Freshman/Decision/SpecialAdmissions. I do not want students and their families go ing through unnecessary work and anxiety via this route, but some situations will exist (you can help determine them) where this process could be recommended.

Also, remember that the UW Bothell and the UW Tacoma are still accepting freshman applications. These UW campuses could be excellent options for some of your students. Additionally, the transfer option from Washington community colleges is a solid path to the UW Seattle.

Although spring has almost sprung, I feel the need to hibernate for a while. I will, however, be alert enough to answer any questions you may have.

Thanks everyone...Phil

Thank you for sharing this =)
I don't think it's looking good for me though, good luck to the other 3,500 who will be receiving their decisions soon.

Hopefully my letter will be in the mail tomorrow. I am getting nervous just thinking about it.

I know that some people's transcripts loaded, but do you know whether or not the UW student number, major, and class was shown? Some of my friends earlier in the year got the transcript to load but didn't have any information in them until the end when they got accepted.

This being on pins and needles is really tough, but from my perspective now, as an old lady, I'll tell you that it always works out. You might not get the school, job, boy, girl, team, ... whatever it is you want with all your heart .... but it ALWAYS works out if you put all of your grit into it.

d was waitlisted today

I was accepted but this is for the sake of a friend, what's the terms of the waitlist? When will they let you know by if they get in? He was accepted to other schools but he really wants to go to UW with me so I'm pretty sure he would like to remain on the waitlist...

Seniormom99, does your or your son's/daughter's unofficial transcript show?

Kwonye west, earlier in the year, my transcript loaded w/o information, yet I was accepted. I do not believe it has anything to do with the waitlist. NViejeP, not only until after the University finds out how many admitted students will matriculate can they inform waitlisted students of a spot.

So can I assume there's no validity in the "Unofficial Transcript trick?"

My friend got waitlisted, and personally even with that letter I think it's absolutely ridiculous. He should have gotten in- turned it in by the priority deadline before December 1, did all the necessary requirements, etc. and waited. And waited. And waited. His status finally changed just a few days ago, and he ended up getting waitlisted. He had called the admissions office multiple times and said they were still waiting to review it, and when he called after receiving the waitlist letter they said it was because they had unfortunately read his application "too late" and didn't have enough room to fully admit him.

I know others with lower GPAs, less activities, lower test scores who DIDN'T apply by the priority deadline and received their acceptance letters last month. It's absolutely ridiculous. I feel bad for the poor guy.

So...there isn't "enough room to fully admit [anyone]" at this stage in the game? This is disheartening; I was beginning to love the prospect of coming to such a highly-renowned school in the health sciences. I still have hope, despite any following posts of discouragement.

I was waitlisted as well...
Looks like I am most likely attending state school now (I'm Californian).

The wait until they let people know if there is room for waitlisted people is ridiculous, the earliest they will let people know is June, and at latest August.

I think that UW should strongly consider notifying all people of decisions by April 1st like other schools do.

I got waitlisted..but my status still says:

We have received all the materials...Updated Dec. 20, 2007.

What the heck?!

SHS_Spartan, that is because they have not technically made a decision yet.

I was waitlisted as well. If perchance I am admitted to UW in June, yet I have already confirmed enrollment at another school, what will happen then? I really want to go to UW, but is it possible to just tell the other college that you no longer wish to attend their school?

Yes, Odyssey, that is the best option. If your ambition is to attend UW and you are accepted, the biggest expense you will make is merely an enrollment fee at the other school. It's best to be safe.

Yeah, I just got waitlisted. Sucks, but UW was my second choice, so I suppose it's not altogether that terrible. Sounds like a lot of people got booted to the waitlist this year, so I doubt that many will actually be getting acceptances. Could be wrong though.

i was waitlisted to lehigh, michigan, and UW (today). think i'm most likely attending emory now (kinda ironical since i applied for UW as a safety...)
