Has anyone not changed their major?

All i've heard from everyone is that they have changed their major a billion times. It make s me a little worried that I'm too set on one thing because I love my major and i dont want to change it. is this bad that i know what i want to do in life so early?

I don’t think it is. If you already have a passion for it then why bother trying to be like others and change your major. This just means your critical minded rather than open minded.

It’s not at all a bad thing. If you find something you really love, then stick with it!

I basically declared my major freshman year because I already knew what I wanted to study and never changed it at all.

I declared my major first semester freshman year and graduated with it last spring.

At my liberal arts college, it seems that science and artsy students are pretty set on their major when they start college. It’s primarily the social science and humanities students who flounder - probably because they haven’t had the same sort of pre-college exposure to potential majors. Most high schools don’t teach sociology or anthropology or philosophy, and subjects like history and foreign languages are approached differently in college. (For example, upper-level language classes focus on culture and literature, not vocab and grammar.)

High school students are exposed to new options, ideas and perspectives in college, and they may change their world view (and major) to reflect that. Isn’t that what college is all about?

No, it’s not. It’s just that most people don’t. A lot of people pick a major without much research and then change it, because they didn’t know what they were getting into (not prepared for it, didn’t like it as much as they thought because of lack of time/research ahead of time).

I’m a freshman this fall, and I don’t plan on changing my majors (BM Piano Performance & BA History). The piano major I decided on in 8th grade and haven’t changed my mind since.

I didn’t change my major. I came in knowing I wanted to study three different things: English lit, journalism and theater. I spent my first year and a half studying all three, undeclared, and after Christmas of my sophomore year, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. Declared my English major, fulfilled the honors program in that department and continued taking classes in the other two.

b@r!um hit it on the nail.

I went in knowing what my primary major was (History), and haven’t changed it once. The only thing I keep changing is my second major and/or minor.
