Exactamundo. The highest concentration of applicants are from NY so its very difficult for the alumni to get to all the interviews. An interview DOES NOT make your chances of being accepted better. Not receiving and interview gives you less of a chance to screw something up and look foolish. Personally, I was never given a interview and was accepted for the class of 07. It's not something to worry about.

This is true; it's not automatically a plus. The interview gives you a chance to incrementally help your chances if you stand out, but it also gives Columbia a reason to reject you if you have a bad interview.

You guys do know that you're not guarenteed an interview at Columbia, right? It's a first come, first serve deal depending on how early you sent in your Part I.

South Carolina; no contact so far.

is there anything you can do to get an interview? call? I know you're not supposed to call the admissions office, is there a Alumni contact or something?

Nothing you can do. Just sit and wait.

After the interview, what form is the report in? Is it like a sheet of options (enthusiasm on a scale of 1-5) with an additional comments section?

It's one number (1-5) and an open-ended comments section where you can write about whatever you want.

The number itself doesn't matter so much because lots of alums don't follow the guidelines and give everyone really high numbers. While we think of a 3 as "average," Columbia wants a 3 to be someone who is stellar enough that Columbia should take that person, given that Columbia rejects 90% of the people who apply. What's most important are the comments and how you prove to the admissions officers WHY the kid you interviewed with is special.

South Bay (San Jose, CA).. no interview, but I did get a Brown one sometime in late 2006 (before I even fully submitted my application) and I'd love to get a Columbia interview..

I got an interview with Columbia. I live in Staten Island, NY.

I have an interveiw 2 days before SEAS deadline, and 3 days before Cornell deadline. Hooray for cutting it close!

Weird, I never recieved an e-mail for an interview, but my friend who lives in the same town did. Interesting, I might have to call the admissions office. BTW, I live in Stockton, CA
