Has anyone NOT received their admissions packet yet?

This is extremely annoying...some people have a lot weighing on this decision. AU is my first choice...I have a back up, but this is very stressful considering if I go to AU, my whole life changes as oppose to my back-up which is only 5 minutes from my house (comparing to the 8 hour car drive). If I didn't love AU so much, this whole admission notification process would turn me off entirely.

Seriously guys, stop *****ing about the email thing. So you didn't get an email, you have to wait for the postal service...big deal. If you weren't even on CC you'd have no idea people were getting decisions.

alanstewart: amen/trust.

alanstewart: Thank you for being sane about the e-mail thing!

Because, come on, guys- it's only an e-mail, there should be 1000 other factors on your list of actually enrolling or choosing to go somewhere elsen than a stupid e-mail.

It's not the e-mail I care so much about - it's knowing if I've gotten in or not that I care so much about.

alanstewart: actually, we would know even if we weren't on this website. Everyone else at my school who applied got an email and then asked me if I had gotten mine, which I hadn't. I know I got in now because they've sent mail since then, but I'm still missing my admissions packet, which I'm sure contains important information about housing, etc. It's definitely not the best system they could have used.

I just got mine (3/25/06) I thought I applied undecided but to my surprise I was admitted to the SIS lol.

this is extremely annoying...i need to know how much money I get from them and my American ID as well but i still haven't received this packet. georgetown mailed out their decisions on friday and I got my rejection letter today...what is up w/ American!!! they're in the same city!!!

i havent gotten ANYTHING at all. im an international though...

Nothing to report from Kingwood, Texas--outside Houston. I received a brief note from the Washington Semester staff congratulating me on admission to AU...but, no letter, email, packet, portal ack.,etc.....admissions office staff said mailed to me 3-20-06, but, "I" must wait to ask for another copy till next Tues....a simple courtesy email would be nice! Most schools have sent docs, regis material, fin ad slips by now. I'm heading out for a final look at another school

my friend STILL hasn't gotten anything from american except a letter asking him something about his fafsa form, and that's it. i thought everyone was supposed to find out by april 1st? a lot of other people seem to have found out weeks ago...does anyone have any clue why he might not have received anything at all yet?

I didn't receive an email or a letter, and finally I called. The lady said they were having problems with some of the packets, and that I would be on an email list to give me all relevant information. If you haven't gotten anything yet, I would call!

I just received my packet yesterday. Here's the issue with the admission packets. They are sending them media mail, which is the cheapest and slowest form of shipment in the USPS. My packet was marked March 20 as they said. It's a good way to keep costs down, but if it's causing this much headache then they should just ship first class. AU doesn't charge an application fee if you apply online, but maybe they should. Media mail is what Half.com uses for book shipments. It's where they only use excess capacity to move stuff, so transit times can take days to many weeks. It seems as if the DC hub hasn't had much capacity in the last couple of weeks (duh all the other schools are mailing out stuff). All of you that haven't received it, they will remail the package if you ask them at this point even though it's useless. You might as well wait for the original one.

Hey, its April 5th and I haven't received a packet yet... I called the office and they said they would send me an email "with all the relevant information to make an admissions decision" by Tuesday, but nothing arrived. What should I do? I already called and got no response or any information.... any suggestions?

If you can access your financial aid award on the undergraduate site portal and can access your account through my.american.edu, then there is nothing that really comes with the packet you need. In fact, the informations and pdfs that link of the financial aid site are the exact pages of the book you would receive. All you have to do now is accept or reject your financial aid award and put your deposit, if you want to go, on the my.american.edu site under finances.

rio, if you accept your financial aid, does that mean you have to attend?

I already asked them. It does not

I too have called, emailed, written, and phoned to no avail. My family offered to pay for FEDEX and the admissions' staff member said she would bring it to the attention of her supervisor...dead end. Since I applied for the Fall 2006 and, have never even been told why I have been selected for Spring 2007 (the lovely solicitation for the Fall 2006 Washington Mentorship option is my only information data) ---I needed explanation. That is not on any portal myedu ---not even evident on my financial aid page. When I ask to speak with someone with authority, not helpful hints-deadend. Fellow well meaning commentors of this thread say it is just important to say yes to your financial
aid-----I can't even let the local scholarship providers know I've been admitted without ANY papers! I've missed out on cheap airfares for Mentorshop Open House since I haven't been admitted. By all accounts AU is a terrific university, but, as a business it sucks.

Ok, I am now completely frustrated and angered with American. I have called several times, emailed and contacted the admission department about my packet, which I have not received yet-- now, they keep giving me a complete run around about my admission packet, refuse to give us any information and were incredably rude on the phone. I was considering American, but after their complete disregard for my problem, I don't know why I would even consider attending the university. It is obvious that they lack even basic management skills, and frankly, their rudeness was unprofessional. I am wondering if there is anyway to resolve this issue- All I want is my information! Any suggestions would be helpful.

Again, if you can access your portal on my.american.edu, then you have access to everything that is in the acceptance package. You can accept or reject your financial aid package online as well as fund your $600 deposit electronically.

My local scholarship provider allowed me to just print the financial aid offer off the internet and submit that. You might want to ask and see if that works.

My experience with the American Admissions and Financial Aid Department actually has been pretty good. I received my admission packet around the 2nd or 3rd, but it was postmarked when they said it was. All my emails have been responded to within 24 hours and pretty courteously. That's not to say that your guys are lying at all. I'm just sharing my experience.
