If so, what is the best way to do this? Thanks in advance!

havent either....ive heard the list of books needed for classes isnt released till 2 weeks b4 class but idk

Thanks for the info. I have written on my calendar that Aug. 10 is the deadline for book reservations. I think I got this info from the Book Center website, but I'll need to double check. That date would correspond to approximately 2 weeks before classes start, which makes sense to some extent; however, you would think they would release the book information well before the deadline.

You can do two things. First, you can pre-order your books from the bookstore and they will be picked and ready for you when you arrive. A second idea is to email your professors and check on the book they intend to use. This way you have time to buy it online, whereas you may have a more difficult time getting it for a good price later on.

We ordered books through UPitt Bookstore. After my D was done her PittStart advising session, we brought her schedule to the bookstore - they kept a copy and took credit card info. They told her the books would be in her dorm when she arrives. Very convenient - although I am sure you can find the books less expensively on your own.

Thanks much! Very helpful advice.

Another good option is the Got Used bookstore on Forbes. We have found them to have great prices and helpful staff. They're going to be open the Sunday before classes start. You can also reserve online: Welcome | GotUsed Bookstore

Got Used is great. Obviously Amazon.com (or some other online source) is the best resource as far as pricing goes, but not always the most practical. Perhaps if you talked to some people about the classes you will be taking, you could get an idea of which books you need/don't need.

Generally speaking though, I tend to change my schedule quite frequently so I just buy the books on campus.
