Has Anyone Received an LOA?

Just curious if anyone has received an LOA yet??? CONGRATS IF YOU DID!!!

I know of a few who have, but I haven't :(

Friday/Saturday will be exciting though...

Just remember LOA's are very few and far between...you really need to have an amazing record for you to get one.

They have been doing boards forever so they typically know what the top 10% WCS is like. If you do the math that is about the amt they give out...100-150 LOAs for 1600 appts.

BTW what I mean for your record...very high SAT (@2100), Top of the class/GPA, Great CFA, Outstanding ALO rec (being their top pick) and EC's out the door...sports, volunteer, BSA, etc. IT is named the Whole Candidate Score for a reason.

Don't expect an LOA if you are in the median score for ACT, top 15% of the class, only did 5 pull-ups, and don't have a rounded background for ECS (i.e, no sports) That doesn't mean you woun't get an appt. and graduate as number 1 at the AFA, it just means that as far as racking and stacking your not in the top 10. Also remember many LOA's go out to recruited athletes and these kids have been talking to the AFA for over a yr now. Our friends son got his already b/c he is being recruited for swimming. They started recruiting him this time last year. BTW I doubt he will accept it, he has his heart set on our in state university and going the ROTC route...so sometimes the LOA doesn't mean they will take the appt. Our other friends son ly got an LOA from the AFA, and none from USNA...he went USNA

Forgot to say I doubt there will be any LOA's this week since Monday was Columbus day and a day off for the military. The board typically meets on Mondays, I am not sure if they would move it to Tuesday for this one week, but I highly doubt it, since they all have other jobs besides sitting on the board. Also realize that the boards do not meet over Xmas break, so they will shut down @ 20th of Dec. and not meet again until Jan. Many people got their appt on Xmas day ly.

I was surprised to see one pop in my mailbox. I didn't really think my application was out of the park but I believe it was pretty well rounded. Just for comparison my SAT was 630 630 600 and a 30 english on ACT which I know isn't standout by any means. As far as athletics, I'm decent but again not division I material (19:40 5K and 53 second 400m and a good CFA). My ALO interview did go very well however. I just read bulletandpima's post so I guess they rate you compared to others? For the record I'm a Caucasian male with no military in my immediate family. Maybe summer seminar plays a role too?

It sort of seems like a mystery to me who gets these, but don't rule yourself out. I was under the impression it was for minorities/recruited athletes only. Hopefully I can get a nomination during the chaos of the congressional election year! Hope this helps and doesn't sound like a brag fest. GL to all!

I really wish I would've found out about Summer Seminar earlier. My application does sound a little like Zoobernarf's though. Maybe next board...

Wow! Congratulations to Zoobernarf! and thanks for sharing your stats. That really does give some of us hope. So, I suppose, that does mean the AFA Board has met at least once.

Congrats and SLS does play a role.

Just remember it is the WCS...get the ALO to say you are my top choice, hit the CFA out of the ball park and have ECS with a good gpa/rank

It is the WHOLE CANDIDATE SCORE

Wow, gave me some hope our sats are almost the same. I def know i wont b recieving a LOA silly dodmerb remidials, lol.

Actually, I recieved an LOA before I had finished all my dodmerb remedials (I had to send them my ENTIRE medical record from birth, over a hundred pages) so it is possible, but I was also a recruited athlete, so that may have affected things a bit

I know, but because of my stats I won't be recieving one...

like it's been said before, LOAs are very few and far between.just relax and know that you're pretty much done with your application, but continue to add new things to it and talk to your counselor.

I hope this doesn't sound off the wall, but is having a commercial pilot in reserves pretty common for ALO's?

Actually, from my experience, yes.

that's what mine was. i actually think last year, there was only 2 ALO's in the state who weren't commercial pilots and in the reserves.

My ALO flies for Southwest.

Buckaroo's ALO was/is a pilot as well

Haha wow, UPS here.

Haha, mine isn't. I think she works in the medical field.

mine flew kc-135's. She came out of ROTC Her husband was an academy graduate.
