Has anyone received transfer decisions?

The website says the decisions will be released approx. 4-6 weeks after March 15 (April 12-26 I guess?), and I haven't gotten mine yet. It's one of my first choice schools so I've been on edge awaiting reply! If any of you have received decisions let me know!

Also, growing up in the email-age, applying to schools was the first time I've ever sent a letter, so I'm a little paranoid about sending my information. Does anybody know if Oxy notifies you if they are missing something from your application?

Thanks!

Sorry. That sounded strange.

I’m not “paranoid about sending my information” because I’m afraid it will end up in the wrong hands and my identity will be stolen, or something crazy like that.

I meant that I’ve never sent a letter, and did not receive confirmation that they received my transcripts, recommendations, etc.

Ha. Just thought I’d clear that up.

Thanks again!

Hi,

I also applied to Occidental for Fall 2011 transfer admission. I got an email saying that they were missing some of my documents and that if I send them by May 2, I should receive a decision letter by May 15.
So I’m thinking that you should receive your decision at least by this date.

Hey,

Great; thanks so much for the info. It’s good to know they email you if they are missing something, as I was kind of worried about that. Good luck, hope you get in!

Hey. Just a heads up. You should probably call the admissions office to see if the actually do have everything. The checklist said they had my high school transcript but the lady over the phone said they didn’t.

Oh shoot. Ok, I’ll do that right now. Thanks for letting me know.

It’s driving me crazy as well… today the admissions office said they will begin to mail the letters on May first and then the mailing process will roll on from there.

Ugh, me too. It’s such a nerve-wracking process. I was so hoping they would be released by late April, the wait is killing me.

Thanks for sharing. I would of for sure been unknowlingly freaking out for another week or two. Glad to know they haven’t even been sent out yet.

Good luck!

-Russell

PS

If anybody who receives a transfer decision could let me know I would really appreciate it. I’m abroad at the moment so my parents are keeping track of my mail and it would be great if I could tell them when to start expecting! Thanks!

Oh yeah, I will let you know when I recieve mine for sure! I am so worried about being accepted, I catch myself checking the mail about a hundred times a day so I’ll get back to you as soon as I find it! Hah I sound like a crazy person… Embarrassing

No, don’t worry, that sounds completely normal! If I was home I would for sure be checking it obsessively.

I’m worried too! I still have about six schools to hear from, but Oxy is the only one I’m really crossing my fingers for.

Thank you! I would definitely appreciate it, I think my parents are tired of me calling everyday asking if anything came in the mail ha.

Haha yeah… My parents are just as excited about the letter arriving, but only because that means ill stop bothering them about it. Ha. Occidental is my first choice as well, but I didn’t have the best SAT scores or highschool grades so it’s a hit or miss, I really really hope I get in though. What other schools did you apply to? Oh, and it’s officially May 1st… Eeee… So they could come any day now!!!

Oh wow… Just read that and I notice I sound like a total slacker, I didn’t have the best grades in high school and didn’t have the best sat scores. However, I did work my behind off these last two years in the honors program at my community college, so I’m hoping that counts for something… Hah I guess we’ll find out!

But that’s what counts I think: the fact that you worked so hard the past two years in college. I don’t think they’ll look too in depth at high school work or SAT scores, both of which I could of done better as well ha. Being in the honors program will definitely work in your favor as it’s a tougher workload.

I applied to Bard, Boston University, Claremont McKenna, Hamilton, Hampshire, UCLA and Berkeley (denied, denied), and of course Oxy. My parents called me yesterday and said I got into Hampshire and Bard so I’m happy about that, but still crossing my fingers for Occidental because I want to stay in California! Where did you apply/where are you from?

I know, May 1st! This is so nerve-wracking!

Ooo, awesome you got accepted! Congratulations!! And thanks, I really hope that stuff doesn’t count too much against me, but if it does I’m not sure what more I could have done to counter it. Anyway, I only applied to occidental and pepperdine for this fall, I was waitlisted at pepperdine and they ‘strongly’ urged me to accept a place on the list. I wanted to apply to chapman but I hadn’t finished my math credits yet, so chances of acceptance to the economics program would have been very slim. So, if oxy doesn’t work out (which I really really hope it does) I wanted to apply to chapman once I finish this quarter for next spring. But if all fails I have a direct transfer to the university of washington, so not to worry. Oh, and I’m from Seattle.*

Did you do an interview at occidental?*

Thanks! It was a relief.

Oh cool, so all Southern Ca schools then?

Did you accept a place on Pepperdine’s waitlist? How does waitlisting even work? If you accept is that like making a commitment to them on the basis that they may take you off? Did they tell you how high you were on the list (I’m guessing since they urged you, you must of been pretty high up)?

Well, I’ll cross my fingers for the both of us that Oxy says yes!

I didn’t. I’ve been living in Thailand for the entire admissions process, I really wish I’d picked it as my top choice before I left so I could of scheduled an interview. Did you interview? If so, how was it?

Haha yeah! I’m sure it was a relief! You have a back-up plan no matter what!

Yeahhhh, all Southern California! Aside from UW. I’ve had a taste of the Midwest, and I’m not so sure I ever want to go back… Hah only kidding, it was great, but I’ve already done it, you know? I would really like to go to school on the east coast, but I feel like it would be too much of a hassle travel-wise when I only have two more years.

Yes, I did accept a place on the waitlist. But I’m certain you can still decline if you do get accepted. In the letter they wrote that of the students they offered admission from last years waitlist- a certain number accepted and a certain number declined. Also, they said to continue on and accept other offers of admission, but if your interest in Pepperdine changes, to remove yourself from the list. However, huge part of it for me is the financial aid… As I am paying for school myself and most is all handed out by the time the waitlisted students are offered a spot. So, even if I am accepted the chances of me actually being able to go would depend on that fact (and if Occidental accepts me). Oh and Pepperdine doesn’t rank students on the waitlist. They wait to hear back from the students who were initially accepted, then if they have space, they evaluate the students who accepted a place on the waitlist again. So, I’m not sure where I would be on the list but the ‘strongly urging’ part of the letter is encouraging.

Yes! Fingers crossed! And toes! Haha

I did interview at Occidental, I felt like it went well. I don’t know though, the whole interview process… And I mean in any instance- whether applying for a job, school, or trying to keep a job when pay cuts roll in… Is asking you to promote yourself. Or prove why ‘I’m the best’… And I’m not so great at that kind of stuff. I mean, I guess you have to master the skill in order to get ‘that job’ in the future, it’s just something I don’t like do. But then again, who does? Well I’m sure there are a select few, haha anyway… When I visited Oxy, the admissions counselors and staff were awesome, very friendly and helpful. I had no idea the young man I had talked to all of lunch at my table was going to be the counselor interviewing me later in the day. So, it was really great, I felt like he really got to know me candidly and could see what I could bring to the school aside from attempting to “promote” myself by struggling to explain who I am in words and what I’ve accomplished. I was very grateful as because of this, the official interview was much more relaxed and comfortable, I would go as far as saying it was a fun and enjoyable experience. I still wonder if all interviews were planned to turn out like mine or if it was just a strange coincidence… haha. Anyway, sorry for talking your ear off… but Thailand? That’s awesome!!! What are you doing over there?

Exactly, I can understand that. It’s definitely good to travel around and go to a whole new place for college, and I may be a bit biased, but Southern California is awesome!

That’s good they at least encourage you to accept other offers. I wasn’t sure how it worked. I feel like everyone I know whose been on a waitlist accepts other offers since it’s so hard to get off this year (or so I’ve read).

Wow! That’s great! I have to say, it sounds like you nailed the interview! I think if it was a fun and enjoyable experience for you, it was probably the same for the counselor. Whether it was planned or not, I’d say you made a great impression.

Yeah, Thailand! It’s been such an experience. I’m here volunteering with a non-profit that offers legal aid to refugees seeking asylum in Bangkok. It’s been eye-opening to hear their stories of course, but also in the sense that it has really made me question my previous plans of attending law school haha.

My name is Russell by the way, and you’re so not talking my ear off! It has really helped talking to someone who’s also applying!

Hi guys,

After skimming the previous posts I know at least one of you has heard back from Oxy. But has anyone else yet? I’m so nervous because this is my first choice and I still havn’t heard anything back from them :/. Does anyone know when I might hear from them?

I’m not sure whether any transfer students have heard back yet or not? I know that I haven’t. But, I do know that after calling the school to ‘check’ on my application and not so slyly asking when the letters will be sent out, the lady on the phone said they will begin mailing on May 1st and they will roll on from there. Also from what somebody said about how they had to resend their information to Occidental by May 2nd and they will hear back by May 15th… I’d have to say we will probably hear back in the next two weeks?

Russell-
I hope I did well! Oh my, I was just so happy it turned out the way it did opposed to the way I had imagined it would go. haha

haha yeah… Without fail, circumstances like the ones you’re experiencing somehow always call you to challenge yourself, morals, and beliefs. And it’s great! I’m sure you have a better understanding not only yourself but a on a whole new perspective you hadn’t considered. But that’s awesome, totally jealous though. hah. I go on a mission trip about once a year to Mexico with my church, it’s along those same lines as your trip. However, I spend most of my time in a day care with the children, but it is such an eye opening experience. I only wish I didn’t have to leave!

And great I’m not talking your ear off! hah, Because it really is comforting to know I’m not the only one over-anxiously waiting to hear back haha
