The only people who have received it seem to have pretty mediocre test scores.

I received it and these are my scores:

SAT I: 710 (M) / 730 (V)
SAT II: 740 (Writing) / 700 (Math IC) / 740 (US History)

What's your gpa?

Above the average for the class of 2008.

Looking at your stats, I wouldn't worry. They probably didn't wanna waste their time on someone they know is going to go to a better school than SB.

i don't know if i'm going to end up at a better school than sb
if i don't get into ucla or berkeley [which is likely, considering that my gpa is <4.0), sb is the next school i'd go to-- i didnt bother applying to ucsd because people i know and like talk about how much they hate it

You're in at SB and likely in at LA or Berkeley.

Berkeley sent me a letter asking for my first semester grades and a teacher recommendation, indicating that I'm borderline. Too bad my first semester GPA was only a 4.4

so_delirious: Did you apply to any other UCs? If so, any invites from the others?

joemama: i applied to all but riverside, merced, and san diego. no invites. none at all.

so_delirious: You SATs are strong, your GPA is OK...how about AP and Honors courses and Essays?

9 APs, already ap scholar w/ honor or something
6 semesters of UC-sanctioned honors courses
essays were probably good enough; i'm a pretty okay writer.

so_delirious:

You should be getting more respect from UCSB. I'm kinda pushy, so I would call UCSB, mention the campus invite that others have got and ask if they somehow lost my application...or maybe see if my invite was lost in the mail system.
