My SATs are 650 math and 520 CR but I have a 4.0 at Penn State right now. If I wanted to transfer to Columbia or Penn as a junior could I retake the SAT?

I don't think it's really recommended after your freshman year. However, I know that there's some advice out there that contradicts this.

Therefore, I think you consider which course of action will suit you best. Do you think you can show significant improvement? Do you think your retaking of the test will show a commitment to success at your transfer school? etc etc

I called U.Penn about this and they said it is not recommended. I asked what would happen if I retook them and they said that no matter how much improvement there might be, they will look at the date that you took them.

Hi: I just took the SAT, got 2380, and I'm almost certain it means nothing. Because I've already been in college for more than two years.

I should say I took the SAT because I never had taken it, and I hear it's required for transferring to a lot of schools. Still... my score is sweet, but it's meaningless.

I can already answer that question: It won't.

So why should the SAT carry any weight after two years of college, especially if you can't retake it? What about retaking the SAT at the end of my sophomore year? Will still have a chance at Penn or Columbia if I don't take the SATs at all?

While it's technically not going to matter much after two years, you still don't want your SAT to hurt you. If you have a 2200+, I would say that you're fine. 2100-2200 is a little less clear, but if you have a sore 1800 or something like that sticking out, it could send a red flag to adcoms.

Also...you can retake the SATs. You just have to fork up some cash.

I would say that your current scores will hurt you. But don't worry...Penn State is still a great school to go to (yeah...you probably didn't want to hear that :-( )

I don't mind retaking them one more time next year if it could help me. Why would I go along with my current scores if they would hurt me? Maybe the SATs don't count for much, but at least it would increase my chances of admission.

I think its cause SAT measure your success for the first year of college. I mean if you have a high gpa in college for a year and half now (assuming your a junior transfer), i think you have already proven that you can be successful.
