Has anyone started a club?

I want to start a club in my school, and I have an idea in mind, but I don't know what I need to do in order to start one. Do I go talk to a teacher first or what?

And what club have you started and was it success?

Ok. So what I started doing was I started listing people that I thought would be interested. Then I approached them, asked them what they thought. Then I told them also to ask anyone they knew if they would be interested in joining. Early on, I decided on cabinet members so that they would be able to help me in the development of the club/team (Co-Pres, VP, Treasurer, Secretary, Public Relations) to make it easier on me. We had a meeting together to discuss meeting days, times, teachers, fundraising, stuff like that. Then I went on the hunt for a teacher advisor (still not 100% sure on this), but you have to do a lot of convincing on this depending the number of teachers in your school. Then I started planning some summer fundraisers to get the club going, as well as started looking for grants for the club to help it get more funding. We also decided on club structure for September. We advertised with posters/flyers around the school, which also helped. You should have an informational meeting in the beginning of the year.

Wow, very informative! Thanks! I was hoping to start a Young Democrats club and I have the perfect teacher in mind, he’s very liberal and is even the AP gov and politics teacher, but I don’t know how many people would join. My school’s not very into clubs despite being huge (~700 in each class). Everyone is football obsessed at my school. We’re kind of a mini-powerhouse around here.
