Has anyone started applying yet?

I'm still waiting to take the next ACT and apply! If so, share your stats!!

I applied back in June for spring semester, but haven’t heard anything in return yet.

Do you mind sharing your stats? Such as grades, SAT/ACT scores, class rank, extracurricular, etc…?

And, you’ve already graduated from High School, correct?

I’m so nervous. All my hard work is depending on these next few months! If they don’t accept me for any term at all, I’m probably gonna cry my eyes out!

Yes, I’ve graduated. I graduated with a 3.5 GPA, and got a 1670 on the SATs. As for extracurriculars, I was president and vice-president of two different clubs. I didn’t do too much outside of school in regard to community service, though I did volunteer at the local campaign office during the presidential elections (I am not sure that really counts as community service proper).

As long as you get your test scores up–which I should have done myself–I think you have good chances of getting in.

Haha, you read my other thread? That was my first time taking the SAT and I was stupid enough to take it lightly. I didn’t study, I didn’t read the passages, I stayed up late the night before of the test day. Can’t blame anyone but myself now. Is your GPA unweighted or weighted? I’m only involved in one club, which I’m President of.

I can’t wait to get this all over with. I just hope that if they don’t accept me fall term, they’ll let me in during summer.

Best of luck to the both of us though!

Hey! I sent in my application (including my personal statements), test scores, and app fee (like early August), but I have yet to send in my transcripts!

Here are my stats (yeah, not so amazing, but whatever):

I have a 4.04 weighted gpa (not sure what my unweighted is…gotta ask)
I’m in the top 10% of my class
My first SAT score: 1660 (terrible, I know)
My second SAT score: 1750
First SAT combined CR +M is a 1030
Second SAT combined CR+M 1160

My highest combined score across all tests is a 1790/2400

I am also taking the ACT this September and hoping for something between 27-30

I was going to take the SAT, but I am afraid the scores will go down. I haven’t prepped much and I mean, my improvement has been good with the CR and Math, so I don’t want to risk it.

I am also in 4 or 5 clubs in my school. (Z-Club, FBLA, SOAR, NHS, used to be in Chorus (scheduling problem))
In chorus, we performed at Lincoln Center and Disneyworld (pretty cool, I think)
I have volunteered at a local hospital near me and will be completing about 200 service hours by Sept '09

Oh and I am OOS

By the way, you can still send in the rest of your materials now and your ACTs later. They won’t review anything until you send them your scores. I mean, it would be easier to get rid of some of the stress, but if you want to wait and submit everything all at once, do it!

Ehh…I doubt my scores will get me in, but from others on this site, I found that I do have a chance. I am sure you do too!! Good luck!

love2laugh, I actually think you have a very good shot at making it in. Your GPA is high, your SAT scores aren’t that bad (mines is worse D:), and you’re pretty involved with 4-5 clubs! Do you have an office position in any of those clubs?

My weighted GPA is around a 3.8, unweighted is 3.4, but that’s including electives and everything. My SAT is only a 1330 combined for all 3 sections (I know, I know- should have took the test seriously.) I’m taking the ACT this coming month and I’m hoping to score at least a 25, and if they defer me with that score, hopefully I’ll raise it by at least 2 points second try! It’s really all I can ask for. I’m President of one club called Best Buddies, and we work with the autism department, and I should have about 70 volunteer hours. Top 5% of my class, but does it really matter? lol

Your chances are looking good! It makes me feel a little more pessimistic about my chances. Hopefully I will get in summer term, if not fall. Are you applying for fall or summer? I heard many people on here said their son or daughter attended summer term and really enjoyed it!

Thanks for telling me about how I could send in my applications and other things right now! I didn’t know we could do that!

Mizzxvii -Thanks! I hope we both get in! About the clubs, no, I don’t hold an officer position. I have tried, don’t get me wrong, but it is quite the popularity contest, but whatever. As long as a person keeps involved, I don’t see the problem!

Anyway, your GPA and rank look awesome!! Top 5%? Yes, of course that matters (especially considering it is so good!=)) I am sure you will do well on the ACTs and I wish you all the luck. Also, are you in state? That may help you! And don’t worry about the SATs, they are evil! lol

It is very good that you are a president of one of your clubs and that also being Best Buddies! Your community service hours are also good!

By the way, don’t be pessimistic!!! Every person has something special to offer to a particular school and scores aren’t everything (even though it helps to do pretty well on them). I applied for the fall 2010 term, but if they offer me both summer or fall, I am kinda thinking about entering during the summer if I attend because coming from NJ, I want a feel for FL. Also, it’d be nice to get a head start on college life-friends, schoolwork, involvement! =) Hmmm…maybe if we both go there during summer term, we can meet up! Just a thought though lol

And no problem! Yeah, I found out about applications from parents on here and how submitting most things early can help your chances. Atleast by submitting the application you show your interest!

Is UCF your number one choice? What do you plan to study?

Hmm…it’d be cool to keep in touch to see how each of us is doing, but not sure if you’d mind! Good luck!!

Yea, I agree- a lot of office position ARE based on popularity! I got mines through hard work though, haha.

Meh, I don’t think class rank matters much to Colleges, because you can very well come from a bad school and have a high rank, which is in my case, or come from a prestigious school and have a lower rank.

I’m so glad I got SOME hours in before last year was over! It was kind of a last minute thing, lol.

Yep, scores aren’t everything, but its one huge factor!! Everything has been going so fine, but I’m just sooo lazy to study for the standardized tests, even when I know how important it is! I guess it’s just about being a Senior, and I’m pretty much done with High School, lol.

Wow, New Jersey? What made you want to attend UCF? Yes, I am in-state. I live in Jacksonville though, so not the same city as UCF. Orlando seems like such a fun place to live!

It’s a great idea that we should meet up if we do get accepted! Like all of my friends have no clue where they want to go, and no one I really know wants to attend UCF! We could dorm together also! You’re a girl right? (And not some creep?) LOL. Sorry, just being cautious rofl, but you seem nice!

Yep, UCF is definitely my number one choice. I initially wanted to attend UF, but first, I know I won’t get accepted for sure, and second, it’s just not a place I want to live in. I want to major in Pre-med!

Yep, totally keep in touch!

Mizzxvii - Haha, I know exactly what you mean about the standardized tests! I am like “Gosh I am a senior, I don’t care…even though I should!”. To be totally honest, if I get into UCF, I’ll be soooooo happy. It’s one of my top choices (Rutgers is my #2 only because it’s a state school!)

Yeah, I’m from Jersey. Well, I went to Florida once during my soph year and I loved it. We were in Orlando to sing at Disney. The weather, the atmosphere, and the fun feel of the area made me love it. I legit came home and was like “Mom, I missed you and the family, but I don’t miss Jersey!”

UCF seems magnificent from all the pictures I have seen and what I’ve read from college sites (plus, it has my major!). I also have an aunt and uncle that live in Orlando so I don’t have to be worried about having no relatives near me. The only thing I’m worried about is the UCF cost because it’s kinda expensive for OOS students (but much cheaper than loads of schools in the US)

Yeah=). I didn’t want to sound like a creep to suggest that, but I thought it’d be cool. And yes, I am a girl and to be more specific…I’m Indian lol. I am kinda worried I won’t fit in at UCF, but it’s college…chance to meet new people, be different, etc.

Oh your friends too? Most of my friends are so-so with the college thing as well. Some of them aren’t leaving the state and those that are, are looking into the Ivies and colleges like Holy Cross.

Yeah, I mean if we get to know eachother more, I will surely dorm with you! And yeah, I am no creep or perv lmao, but I get what you mean. You seem nice too!

Well maybe still apply to UF? There’s no harm right? But I know what you mean about living there. I think Orlando has a lot more to offer and considering UF is #2 on the party school list, doubt my parents would like me going there over UCF. My parents wouldn’t even have considered UCF if it wasn’t near my aunt and uncle!

Agh…second thing we have in common (besides both wanting to go to UCF). Pre-med!!! I want to go into pre-med as well, but I’m going to major in the health sciences (that way I have graduate school in public health as an option if I don’t want to go to med school). Know what kind of medicine you want to do?

Yeah, we really should keep in touch via AIM or something because right now the thread it straying away from the actual topic haha.

Oh yes, I’m definitely applying to more schools, lol. I’m applying to FSU, USF, UF, UNF, and UCF! But if UCF accepts me, then it’s whatever for the other schools, rofl. I think two of my friends that graduated last year will be applying next year also. I don’t wanna come to that school not knowing anyone at all, lol! It’s a big school, and can be scary if you don’t know anyone. But I’m all about having a great College experience. My dad suggested I should just attend UNF because it’s close to home or whatever, but no way! UNF is the last resort if all Colleges turn me down- hopefully not, though!

Yes, definitely have to get to know you more before wanting to dorm, lol! I’m just so excited, nervous, and stressed about this whole College thing! Getting mixed emotions from all of this! I know I’d have to dorm with some stranger anyways, haha.

Honestly, I don’t know what I want to major in as of now, but I know it has something to do with Pre-med. I’m thinking of majoring in Biology, but not sure. I want to be a Pharmacist or Dentist… but it may change with time.

And I’m Asian, so I totally get the whole thing about strict, worried Parents, lol!

Yea, totally getting off topic, lol! My aim is Mizzxvii, so add me!

Yeah, Florida has a good amount of schools there. NJ on the other hand has only a couple being that Princeton is the best, but public schools that are mostly popular are Rutgers, TCNJ, and Montclair and I don’t want to go to any of them except Rutgers haha. Rutgers is my only NJ school! I have UCF, Rutgers, UMiami, Hofstra, and UMaryland (Baltimore). UCF, Rutgers, and Miami are my top three though.

Well…atleast you know a couple people! But I’m kind of glad I won’t know people only because the college experience is better that way. And plus, as you said already, 40,000 kids go to this school so it’s big,but you get to meet all kinds of people =)

Ditto about the dorming thing, even though everyone is pretty much a stranger at first haha.

Yeah, I wanted to major in Bio first, then Psych, then I went to health sciences. I know I want to be in the health/medical field.

Are you really? Haha…atleast someone knows the life! Seems like Asian parents are the most strict parents out there lol

Added you…talk to you there! =)

I applied back in March for Spring semester and have already been accepted and recieved my letter yesterday! Im a transfer student with a AA degree

Ah, lucky Bigshow! I didn’t know they’re sending out letters already! Shoot, gotta get everything ready and apply ASAP, lol.

I just submitted my app today! When should I be able to get a PID and log onto myUCF?

dance2nite926- you should be able to get onto myUCF in about 3-5 days. Good luck!

love2laugh- Thank you very much!!

I drove to my school and got my transcript so I could just send it myself and as of now my UCF status is that everything is sent in and all I have been doing for the past few months is anxiously checking myUCF status with no activity!

I am dying to find out! Yesterday I emailed them inquiring about when I might know

I’ll let you know how that goes

I’m extremely nervous about finding out whether I get in because my GPA isn’t so great

I have a weighted 3.5 with 3 AP classes, 1 honors, and 4 consecutive years of a foreign language.
My SAT is a 1270 combined reading and math…total 1940
My ACT is a 28…I’m extremely worried!

futureknight don’t worry. You more than qualify for the Spring semester term. Just wait till they send you a response. You most likely will get accepted in the middle of September. I think that they are looking at transfer students first because of their direct connect program. Afterward, they will start looking at the undergraduate freshmen.

Thanks ramaru
You’re right I emailed them and they said that they’re currently focused on transfer students but they’ll start reading summer and fall applications in the middle of the month…I stilll can’t stop checking my status ha

I’ll keep the group posted on further developments
