Has anyone taken the chem101 placement exam?

see topic.

if you have, can you share some insight on what kind of questions to expect? i thought i would have this in the bag with a little studying, but i heard from someone that penn’s placement tests are really hard. any idea of % credit awarded for the tests also?

no clue, but i'd like to know too...bump

bump, post if you're preparing for this placement test. or send me an i.m. to mdford86 if you want to talk about some topics, because i sure do!

I'll be taking it as well.

did you have ap chem? last chem i took was ap test in 2004 (i'll be a transfer student to penn this year) so i'm trying to crack down on some of these topics so i don't have to waste a credit on chem...

i took it and i hated it. ended up falling asleep during the exam thinking i wasted 2 hours of my life... but then again i wasn't prepared AT ALL.. it'll be easier if you actually study for it, but who wants to do that? its summer time!

no joke. I took it and didn't pass, because i didn't know what was on the exam. to be honest its not much harder than AP chem, you just need to know some additional topics that i didn't cover in IB or AP chem.

*these additional topics are all quantum mechanics stuff.

I'd be interested in any topics to key in on as well. Thanks for noting quantum mechanics.

Are there mulitple choice questions like the AP or just free response?

I'd suppose there are both. I plan to take these exams too. Remember to register at the chem department's web site http://www.sas.upenn.edu/chem/ before 3 pm of each test date.

There might be MC questions but I wouldnt' count on it. if there are, chances are good they will be "multiple multiple-choice" questions.
