has anyone transfered from Cali to Baruch?

Just wondering, as i am giving up my admission to UCSD to get into CUNY_Baruch.

When i looked at college board.com apparently Baruchs acceptance rate is very low, but its a state school and in terms of schools in new york, i know i wont get into NYU or Columbia.

Also, is it really moronic to give up an admission to UCSD for Baruch?

yes.. it is.

yeah, it is honestly ridiculous...i wouldn't do it

Ok let me explain the situation a bit more..... my bf lives in NYC, so the intention for me to move there is to move in with him and blah blah.... so i plan tomove anyways, and i have to do the best of it.

UCSD i had guranteed admission to , and i live in san diego, i just visited the campus and in all honesty i though it sucked, i cant explain it, i just really really really was not thrilled with the school.

On top of everythign else, if i was a bio or premed major then yes i would definatley go to UCSD, but in UCSD my major is going to be ECON simply b/c they dont have anything else ia m intrested in .

Out of all the NY schools baruch seems to be the best one i would get into and actually afford.

I could probably pull off an admission to NYU however i cant afford taht shcool ...and starting my life together with someone is not exactly ideal with having lots of school debt.

So if not baruch, anyone have any other suggestions?
baruch seemed to be the best school i could find.

baruch is great for business econ majors. Their tuition is barely a thousand or two more than ucsd, housing could be cheaper considering UC dorms cost nearly 13,000 a year. Hundreds of companies as well come to recruit from baruch for econ and other related majors. I would pick baruch in a heart beat as i would be in the same situation in a semester or two, i have the chances for admission to the usual agreement programs, ucd, ucsd, ucr, uci and ucsb, but they dont offer what i want so i am looking else where

^ baruch is actually cheaper for instate residents, which i would be after living there for a year.

but yes for out of state it is only a few thousand more... which is really really good.

And i agree that the UCs dont really offer the same type of majors as baruch, atleast not any of the top UCS. For example accounting/finance/actuarial science/ I know actuarial science is offert at UCSB, but i wouldnt put UCSB as a top UC nor would i think it was significatly better then baruch.

In terms of the 5 boroughs, aside from NYU and Columbia, i dont really know of any other good schools, baruch seemed to be the ONLY somewhat respectable and cost-effective school in that area.

O yes i forgot that, i love that policy unlike other school where you have to prove an intent to stay and if you deviate they will come after your for repayment. UC's are great for research, your major as well as mine dont require that and you will never be able to beat a location that is so close to wall street and conneticut

i would go to baruch in a heartbeat. but is it really that selective? i thought i was gonna get in without a problem.. crap :T

well according to Collegeboard.com

Percent applicants admitted: 36% (baruch)

and for UCSD its 42%

now as a comparison point , NYU is 35%, i HIGHLY HIGHLY doubt that its as difficult to get into NYU as it is to get into Baruch, this leaves me to believe that in reality a lot of unqulified people apply to baruch and the school simply has no choice but to reject them. I assume anything above a 3.0 for a gpa should get you... but i dont know, i have no clue. i know very little about how this school accepts its applicants. There isnt even an essay in the application.
My transferable gpa is 3.5 .. and i dont know if i should worry or consider baruch a safety.

i believe the average sat for baruch on the old system was about 1100 and avg gpa was a little higher than 3.0. i think that since it is a cuny school, many nyc residents use it as their reach of all the other cuny schools they apply to, and that's why it seems so hard to get into. if you got into ucsd, even though ucsd has a higher admit rate, i think you could get into baruch just fine.

baruch is excellent for business, and they have other programs, like communication, that tie in really well with their business aspects. but their campus is completely different from ucsd, considering that it mostly consists of the 17 floor "vertical campus" building.

but - don't move to new york just for your boyfriend. i'm sure ucsd has great options, and you can always go to baruch, columbia, or nyu for grad school.

i was just looking over my Baruch application for Fall and its complelty F***UP!

i have no idea why, but its missing my classes for fall, and its missing the other schools i attended. I know i checked over this multiple times before sending it in, i have no idea what i should do. THere is no EDIT option anywhere.

I didnt "get" into ucsd, i had guranteed admission.... so that doesnt really count, atleast not to me.

GRRR i am soo annoyed with this application, i dont know waht to do.

what is your transfer GPA, just curiuos

what was your gpa etc for admssion to ucsd econ???

Some general info

I go to Baruch...unfortunately. I mainly chose Baruch over the other colleges I was accepted to because I really had my heart set on some of the colleges I was rejected from and thought I should just go here then transfer, and I plan to stick by that plan. I'm not going to get into the whole 'it’s stupid to move for your bf/gf' thing but just know what you’re getting yourself into. Baruch has NO social life. I've made great friends here and have fun at gatherings and stuff but after visiting friends at UVA, Emory, or even NYU I must say that it's completely different from the 'ideal' college experience. There are no dorms as far as I know. I think we have a couple of buildings but I have only ever been into the VC building (where all my classes are) and the library. Honestly, I really like the VC (Vertical Campus) building, the design is pretty cool and would make a great FPS map (lol) but the elevators break all the time (or become regular stairs as Hedberg said). I've only had 5-6 classes so far and I have mixed feelings about the classes. I have 1 lecture class with 491 people, other classes have about 20-40 people, all except English were fairly impersonal unless you really took the time to make a relationship with the prof and talk after class.
The only thing you’ll find the Baruch is rated #1 for is diversity, I'm white and I think I have more Asian/Black (+ a lot of Russians too) friends than white. Baruch is known for its business and somewhat economics and if your thinking of another major I'd suggest somewhere else in the city.
Also, Baruch is in NYC and most ppl are NYers and they have that attitude. Not necessarily bad mind you, but def noticeable. Most people just come to class and then go to work or home, not a lot of connecting going on.

I don’t know anything about ucsd so I can't compare but just wanted to give you some info to help I guess.

Lastly, I don't know if you’re going to be paying instate or out of state...but imo Baruch is NOT worth out of state tuition at all. It's mad cheap for instate (I’m paying about $1,500-$2000/semester) and my HS cost me $10,000/year so I’m happy, but like I said I’m leaving this place for good next fall, can’t wait

Ok, since a few people have mentioned it, its more like fiancee not bf, does that make a bit more sence now? i am not moving 3k miles for some guy, so i am trying to make the best out of the educational situation.

UCSD has a lot of classes of 300 based on what people that go there have said... and just like baruch they have those smaller seminars once a week.

I am russian, so i guess i will diversify the campus some more. lol .

I dont really want a social life on campus, b/c i would be really going there and then going to work or home..... so i guessi wont miss that, nor would i have participated if it was availabe.

I would pay out of state for one year, which is actually only a few thousand more than UCSD in state... however financial aid will cover most likely 100% of my expenses.

Baruch seems like the BEST choice out of all the NY schools i can afford and get into .... primarly afford.. .even if i got into NYU i still couldnt go, and besides NYU and COLUMBIA, i dont really know what else is out there.

MY transfer gpa was 3.67 when i applied, it dropped after Calc2 to 3.48, i did the TAG transfer admission gurantee, you have to have a 2.8 for that.

I wrote a pretty good personal statement... which from what i understood is not even read by the admissions comittee due to the whole "guranteed" part. WHen they send you your application there is this sheet you attach to it that says in big letters " APPROVED FOR PROCESSING" .... when you do the TAG you have your choice of any major in UCSD...... however some of the bio majors have additional requirments, but ifyou meet them, your in.

thats why i dont consider this as actually "getting in" to UCSD. I Just took the courses, signed the paper, and can go there.

My personal statement and stuff is what i hope will get me into LA or Cal... if one of those two things occur i will postpone my move until i am done, however in UCLA i picked a major that is pretty accepting... joint in math and econ.. and in berk i picked just econ, which probably i wont get into.

Well i know you only need a 2.8 for tag at UCSD. And i know they dont read your essay and i have always wondered why they even make your write one. But UCSD, so boring, nice area, but so boring. Berkley i saw cost 23,000 a year which is ridicolous for an instate college. Must as well for me to go to Iowa which would cost me only 22,000 for out of state including dorm. Math and econ, is that a specific major or double. I would apply to cal or la but i wont be able to go until the 2007 fall semester, to much waiting for me, right now i want to get int and out of college and i have a 2.7 right now and 3.3 after the semester with a possibility of 3.78 once i finish 60 units, hopefully out of state schools are generous with financial aid (merit mainly)

berkley is not 23k for in state, its the regular UC admission price, same as all th eother UCs

Im not that financial aid savvy but how come finaid would cover almost 100% of your expenses at baruch and not NYU? How does your EFC increase when you change schools?
