I am undergraduate accepted student and
I wish to change major before semester begins. I tried several contact to college office but they were busy to call with me.
By the way, would it be rude if I just visit college office and change major without making any appointment in prior?
You might want to change this thread from financial aid to the school you are talking about. Quick answer though is it might depend what you are switching from and to. Some majors are easy to transfer into and some can be nearly impossible. Depends on the school and the major.
It depends on the school? there are too many variables to consider
If you are trying to get in to an oversubscribed, impacted major or separate school (school of business, school or nursing, etc), it could be hard for you to change majors. You could have been admitted solely because you did not apply to that major. You may have been admitted into the college but not the major because the school did not feel you were a good candidate.
Some schools have specific pre-requisites for majors?
Does your school have this? If yes, have you met those requirements?
You are probably not going to be able to simply visit the college office and change your major with out an appointment. The best thing would be to meet with your advisor and find out the correct process for changing your major.
I agree with @sybbie719
It depends on how your college works.
Some colleges admit you to the entire university and you don’t need to “change a major” as a freshman but just sign up for the Bio classes instead of History. You don’t declare a major until end of sophomore year.
Other colleges admit you into colleges…eg. the Business School, the Engineering school, etc
So if you want to change from Economics to Accounting that is okay, but not Economics to Engineering.
Still other colleges admit you by major…if you didn’t get into Biology major but did get in as Education, you can’t just switch.
I suggest looking on your college’s website to see how they work and talking to your adviser (you will be assigned one this summer to help you choose classes) about how it works.
Without knowing the college or major, no one here can really help you with specifics.
This is definitely something to chat with the registrar and/or your advisor about. As @bopper said the process is really dependent on the admission process and the college. It also depends on the majors you are switching between. For instance, switching from History to Biology might be harder to work out than Chemistry to Biology, especially if your admission is to, say, the School of Science and Engineering as opposed to the university at large. It’s more likely that you’ll be able to change your major now than it will be after you’ve started. It would definitely be more appropriate to email or call someone at the advising office and the registrar’s office to make an appointment having to do with these changes, instead of just walking in.
@kakaa Have you tried the college website FAQ on changing majors ? Your question is so vague without any specifics.
