Has it ever occured to you that maybe the people who were left to be accepted were the ones who considered USC their top choice?

From what I've seen and read in the USC forum....many of the people who have named USC their top choice are getting accepted only recently, or haven't received a decision yet.

Maybe USC left us to the last..because they know that if they notify us of our acceptance...we'd definitely go to their school....(i'm talking about the applicants that have applied by Jan 10 and don't really need the scholarship money)....i'm talking about the applicants that are desperately and eagerly waiting for a decision from USC...at this moment.

Maybe they felt the need to accept the ones that weren't AS keen on going to USC as us....maybe we're still on the accept- pile...but haven't heard anything yet...since USC knows that its our top choice...

Or maybe i'm just ranting on hope ...because everyone here is either really relieved at this point..or really worried.

now that i think about it....everybody that i know that got accepted so far does not have usc has their first choice...but seriosuly a safety school. THey don't really want to go to usc. their waiting for like...harvard and stuff -.-

but i'm thinking this is just wishful thinking. lets hang in there guys. two more LONG weeks left

Im pretty sure alot of the people who were accepted in the 1st and 2nd non-scholarship wave would not even go there considering their stats are so high.

Im sure somone with a 2300 or sumthing with no scholarship would not give up the chance to go to an Ivy to go to USC

All colleges notify students with higher stats earlier, its not just USC.
They do that to increase their chances of getting the student with high scores/grades to actually matriculate by bribing them with earlier admission and even scholarship money.

And as AJ said, someone with a 2200 or 2300 SAT would much rather go in debt of $200,000+ and graduate with a degree from an Ivy than from USC.

yeah. hopefully. but the problem is that there is no actual way for a school to know that it is your first choice (Except ED) in reality.

applying early (time wise not decision wise) may show something, visiting shows something but they all add up to nothing in the end. i know several people who were accepted ED to schools they'd never been to -- whereas i'd visited and was rejected with similar stats. how can they know they definitely want to go somewhere WITHOUT EVEN SEEING IT? they dont - and they're lying to themselves if they claim its true.

do you really think that if you go up to an admissions officer and tell them how much you love USC they'll go back to their office, remember your name, and mark it down in your file? honestly, they don't care. especially with tens of thousands of applicants. its sad. especially for us. but there's nothing we can do. other than continually annoy the regional person -- which may or may not work.

Yep, true. No way it's based on how much you want to go. USC gives scholarships to people who have better stats. They seem to follow a very objective system. Higher stats = Earlier notification. I don't think they care how badly you want to go if your stats just aren't good enough.

I actually, at the advice of my college counselor, had my parents (lawyers) write up a contract....very similar to one you would sign for an ED....basically saying that if I were offered fall or spring admission into USC, I would turn down any and all offers of admission in order to matriculate at USC...so yeah. It worked for a few kids last year, I mean not at USC but other really good schools like Johns Hopkins, Emory and Tufts. I really doubt I am the only one who did that....so yes there are definitely ways too show you really want to go there. I had my parents, my counselor and well duhhh me too...sign it.

However, how much weight USC will actually put on it is a whole other question....

France76: that's definitely a new one on me....granted, it makes sense for a school like USC (who doesn't have ED anymore), but why would someone do that at a school like Emory that not only has EDI, but also EDII?? Wouldn't the folks in Atlanta find that odd?

Actually..I think they're just pretty random. I really don't know how they go down the list. My 1800 friend got in from the mar 14 batch (applied for Dec 10 deadline, forgot to mention he wanted scholarship), my other 2000 friend go in from the Feb 29 batch (applied for scholarship). Then again, lynn applied Dec 10 too. We just have to wait and see...

Tufts is the same...ED I and ED II....however, I didn't talk to the kid that did Emory....but I talked to the Tufts kid and basically like he said that at the time the EDs rolled around our college counselor was telling him like it was a reach for him cuz he had a dip in grades second semester junior year...so he got discouraged. I guess his first semester grades were better though, cuz he applied RD with the contract....now he's at Tufts.

But I agree with you...if I were the college admissions people at Emory or Tufts I would definitely raise an eyebrow.

I go to a private school, and at the very end of February, our college advisors call our top 3 choices and let them know if they are our first, second, or third choice..

i actually didn't apply for the dec 10 deadline. (to FellowCCViewer)....I applied by Jan 10 so that i could show that even though i am an international...i am willing to pay however much USC wants.

Your thread has given me a shred of calmness in this sea of insane freaking out, haha.

The third wave is going to be a big one, and by big I mean everyone getting big red packages (hopefully!).

I applied to the Jan. 10 deadline and I hope they know that I don
t care about getting scholarships, I want to go to USC because it
s my #1 (as is with a lot of other people, too). I know some people who applied to the Dec. 10 deadline who still have not gotten decisions (but they have pretty good stats) so all we can do now is wait.

My status is still stuck on the "received fall grades" so I guess I`m starting to worry that other peoples' statuses are changing.

to Fshe me too!
i applied jan 1o because i wanted to make sure my app was good and everything
and my status is still at "received fall grades" but i hope that doesnt mean anything bad it has been that way since 3/4

Yup, me and you are about the same, tammers. :) My status is the same, too! Since 3/04, too! =O

I worked REALLY (and I mean /really/) hard on the application. I finished it way before the due date, but I was reluctant to turn it in xD
It just wasn`t PERFECT enough. :) I worked on it everyday and sent my essay to just about everyone to help me edit/correct/proofread/critique, haha!

And I remember EXACTLY the day I sent it in.

December 8th, 2007 at exactly 1:23am with my dad by my side. <3
