Has Tele-Bears screwed me?

During Phase I I signed up for Math 1A, Music 26AC, and I was wait listed for CS3S..after CalSO, a week later, I emailed Mr. Garcia to tell him of the importance in getting off the waitlist in CS3S (since waitlist is manual for that class). He replied and told me that CS3S has been CANCELLED and replaced by CS10. Not one of my counselors knew about this, and the note on Tele-Bears saying that it was cancelled was not even up when I was signing up for classes!

Now, Phase II for me is 9 days away and there are 16 spots left for CS10...am I screwed? What should be my backup? HELP!

You can always self-study computer science (important programming concepts like recursion) for the first semester, to prepare yourself for 61A in the spring.

Or preview CS 61A here:

[CS61A Home Page](CS61A Home Page)

and then take CS 61A in the fall.

Drop Music, add CS?

Phase 2 already started, he won’t be able to do that. Was CS3 still listed on the schedule? That’s weird. I heard it was going to get cancelled since last year. Can’t you just get on the waitlist for CS10 or do you mean 16 spots left on the…waitlist? 16 spots…9 days left…hmm Unless there’s some sudden surge, you still have a far shot at making it.

My phase 2 appointment says July 27th or something, does that mean my phase 2 doesn’t start until then? T_T

^Yes, you have to wait like everyone.

I was able to switch around my classes on TeleBears last night, I switched off Music 26AC for CS10. Was I lucky I did this last night? When does Phase II start the earliest?

I was fairly sure phase 2 starts tomorrow (thursday)??

Sounds like it hasn’t started yet since fl1p1npr1d3 was able to change his classes

Phase II start date is July 14th. Phase I ended July 12th, but perhaps open hours still active up until phase II actually begins.

Can someone explain how telebears Phase I and II appointment dates are determined? I know that having more units (like being of junior or senior standing) will get you an earlier telebears date, but what else? I’m a rising sophomore, and my Phase II isn’t until August 2…I definitely remember my Phase II for freshman being at least five days earlier than, probably more. From this thread, it seems there are freshmen who have Phase II dates much earlier than mine. How is it possible that a freshman could get an earlier Phase II date than a sophomore?

Freshmen have their Fall Phase II telebears appointments before Sophomores. That’s done on purpose to help them get their classes.

There are general principles, like the odd freshman first semester inversion of priorities mentioned by singh2010, preferences for athletes, disabled student program members, class level and attained unit rankings, but also some old-fashioned randomization thrown in there.

yes, you can find someone in a lower class level ahead of you because of the randomization. Sometimes you come out ahead, sometimes you come out behind (the famous ‘screwed by telebears’ situation many will face one semester during their time at Cal), but you survive and move along towards your degree anyhow.

Wait, if Phase 2 started july 14th what is the point of the appointment (mine is July 25th)?

Does the appointment just mean u can make unlimited changes during that time, and phase 2 is already open atm?

it means that from July 14th until the 25th at the start of your appointment, you cannot make any changes or add any classes and the limit stays at 10.5 units, but once your appointed slot arrives you can go add classes until your total goes over 16.

Ah ok gotcha, thanks! :)
