As the title asks, has the current economic contraction changed your education or career paths? I'm just curious to see how people are adapting to the situation.

Maybe state universities instead of privates?
Medicine instead of investment banking?

I was seriously considering an IBanking career. After the recent events, I’m definitely sticking to a more safer route. Medicine.

never really wanted to go into I banking but definitely finance… and the hope continues!

Its not like the economy is going to be down forever, you don’t need to change majors…

I agree. But it shows how the business cycle is still vulnerable to contractions as well as periods of growth so some people may not be willing to go into business anymore. The economy is not always predictable and some people may want to be more secure.

Nope. I took a chance on a job in India where the economy continues to grow at a rapid clip. The only difference is how long I put off my Wharton and HBS apps to wait for the current glut of fired financetards to make their way through the system.

I never liked finance, and I’m glad it will never be the monster it once was.

well I wanted to be an investment bankers, but now that there are no investment banks in america…
