Has there been any sort of consensus on PSAT/NMS?

...for next years seniors

The guidance counselors here told everyone that scores were supposed to go way up this year. I've seen a few people here speculate that scores are going down, however

Is this all just random speculation? Or are they basic the predictions off of something?

the overall average scores went up this year and also more people taking it so a higher percentage is necessary I think.

I think it is possible the commended cutoff will rise by one point, given the percentile charts that are available. No way to predict how the state semifinalist cutoffs will fare, because they have not released enough detail to definitively analyze.

The only thing we can be sure about is that it has never gone up or down by more than 3 points.

I’m two points above last years so let’s hope that it doesn’t go up too much. :P

I had a 219 and last year the cutoff for my state was 214. My counselor said the cutoff was likely to surpass my score, however, so I hope it didn’t go up too much

I was looking at this:
[College-Bound Juniors 2008 - PSAT/NMSQT](SAT Suite of Assessments – Reports | College Board)

And then for my state
Higher Education Professionals | College Board;

Is there anything you can conclude from this (although it doesnt show total scores)

no a jump of 5 pts is just impossible

Hmm. Perhaps a general idea as to where the average score falls? I don’t know…those data tables are pretty comprehensive as far as demographic mapping goes, but as you mentioned, it doesn’t include total scores.

sorry i dont mean to take over the thread. but how many students per state qualify for semifinalish? Anyone know the percentage of total test takers per state that qualify?
