The difference is that UT Austin is the feeder school for UT Law which is a the #15 Law School and will guarantee at least a Big Tex Big Law Job.

Neither of those California schools are even in the top 20 (but I think Davis might be somewhere close) Look to Berkley/ Boalt if your going to California.

One of the advantages to staying in Texas would be that you will pay instate tuition (will save you $100,000 as an undergrad, probably 1/4 million by the time your out of law school. This is a lifetimes of savings.

In addition your parents could use political and familial connections to secure jobs and glad-handing both to get you into UT and post JD jobs, which goes a whole lot farther than you might imagine in these situations. More than likely your family does not have much influence many states away in California (unless of course your originally from there)

In the end though it really comes down to where do you want to practice? If you want to practice in Texas then you should definately stay in Texas, if you dont mind getting a regional job like you might be looking at with the UC Davis or similar schools, then go to California. If you get into Boalt… GO!
