My S just found out that he was accepted into the Math Semester in Budapest program for next fall. If anyone has any info about living in Budapest or anything else that you think might be helpful for my son, please share with me. I'm especially interested in any specific medical contacts you might have. I know my S will get info from the program itself, but anything extra would be great.

Send a PM to TheDad. His D did the math semester in Budapest a couple of years ago.

Thanks Marite.

Friends son was accepted into study abroad program in Budapest for the fall semester too.
What school will be attending? I’ll see if it is the same.

The program is run by St. Olaf College and is called the Math Semester in Budapest. It’s taught in English at The Technical University of Budapest, by faculty of that university. There are non-math courses that can be taken in addition to the math classes, and they are taught by faculty of McDaniel College (I think), which has a campus in Budapest.

I know nothing about the program but just wanted to chime in and say that Budapest is a georgous city. If you ever go to visit , make sure you take advantage of many different, world class public bathouses and spas the city has to offer.

A neighbor’s son did the math semester in Budapest, and the reports were that it was an amazing and productive experience. Apparently besides being very intellectually stimulating, there was also quite a convivial social group there and a good deal of weekend travel out and about.

Does your S. have specific medical needs?

You asked specifically about medical resources- here’a place to start if you are concerned about getting care for a chronic or recurrent condition:
[Medical Resources - U.S. Embassy Budapest, Hungary](http://hungary.usembassy.gov/medical_information.html)

My son does have a chronic medical condition. I’m working on finding an English-speaking specialist in Budapest should something come up while he’s there.

Did you see the link to the PDF file list of medical resources at the Embassy site above? if not, here it is again:
http://hungary.usembassy.gov/uploads/images/mA-k6W04P2zCZySbjVzlyw/doctorslist_2008june.pdf

It looks like a very good list to start from.

Here’s another resource:

Thanks Calmom. I think I’ve seen those links, and the type of specialist we need isn’t listed. I’m going to email the American Citizens Services at the US Embassy in Budapest to see what they can do. We also have the IAMAT list of English-speaking doctors but haven’t found what we need there either. I’m hopeful that by August, when he leaves, we’ll have everything lined up should he need medical care during his stay in Budapest. I’m also guessing that someone at the program he’s in will be able to help. Now that I know he’s going, our insurance company might also be able to get us a list of doctors.
