Has your SAT improved by 1000 points?

Has your SAT score or the score of someone you know improved 1000 points or more?

If you do not want to share the exact score (highest and lowest), please let me know if the first score was below 1190 and if the highest score was above 2150.

Also, please let me know if the first score was taken in a 7th grade Talent Identification Program or earlier.

As background, my son did this and I am trying to figure out how common or uncommon it is.

Thanks.

Im not sure if 1000 points is possible for many people, but with dedication and hard work, your SAT score is bound to increase at least a few hundred points.

I took the PSAT in 9th grade and scored in the 1300’s.
In 10th grade, I took it again and scored a 1490 something.

After taking an SAT course for nearly the whole summer between 10th and 11th grade, I scored a 1960 on my first SAT and around a 1970 on the PSAT.

Hopefully I haven’t reached my max yet, im still hoping to score in the 2100 range.

Good luck!

If you manage to score over 2150, it will be an improvement of 3 SDs, which is a rare event, from what I have seen. Most students improve about 1 SD. So, the fact that you have achieved over 1850 is already significant. Did you not take the SAT in 7th grade talent identification programs thru Duke U or JHU etc ?

I know that I took the PSAT in middle school in both 7th and 8th grade, but I don’t remember/have the scores for them. All I know is that I didn’t do that well haha.

You should be able to call the middle school and get that score. That is how I got my son’s score. If you scored below 116 in 7th grade, then over 2150 on the SAT, it would be the equivalent of a 4 SD change.

I got 105 on PSAT 2 years ago and got 2100 last month

Both of my kids’ (DD and DS) SAT scores improved over 200 points from sophomore year to junior year. No where near 1000.

I took a SAT test from the BB one day because I was bored. I was in 6th grade. 1400 something. lol

In 8th grade I took the the SAT with the talent search thing. They only give back the Reading and Math Portion, which I got 560/630 respectively.

Junior year of high school now 2340.

So 900 pts increase in the span of 5 years?..

1470 PSAT score in 10th grade, studied quite a bit an got 1700 PSAT in 11th. Finally got 2110 by June. Not quite 1000 points but quite an improvement.

Amuricuh, by chance do you play runescape. If so I think I remember you from nex and ss.

Anyhow, to improve by 1000 points you have to be scoring atleast below 1400.

I am a senior who has already applied to colleges, but I am taking the January SAT. I hope to make a huge improvement. If I do, I will surely tell you. My only fear is that I may get the score I want but the college board will flag it, and I heard that they take lots of time with such delays. So, I’m thinking scores may not arrive in time for colleges to review them.

Any thoughts? Do you think colleges will look at the scores even if they come late? Is there a way in which I can speak to someone from the college board, explain my urgent situation, and ask even beg them to review faster?

@perazziman I apologize for asking my questions in your thread, but nobody as been responding to the thread I started. Thank you in advance for your kindness and consideration.

I got a 1070 on the old SAT when I was 11 and a 2300 (1500 CR+M) on the new when I was 16. So, almost 500 points over 5 years.

Does anyone have an answer to my question?

Sorry Aime, I don’t play Runescape. Must have been someone else.

@staymotivated… You shud just stay motivated… I guess and do your best in that one… Either way, what’s done is done… And if there is a huge improvement, maybe they’ll take a look :D

If anyone has a professional answer… help the dude/dudette will ya?!
Hope I do well in Jan too! Oh God pleaase! :)

Ehh didn’t increase by 1000, but it did increase by 300 for me, in 3 weeks… So I think that as long as someone has the determination to study for the SATs, they can be able to achieve a 1000 score increase. Unless you know, you started at- let’s say 1410 ;)

It is possible with hard work.

That is crossing three standard deviations, quite impressive. You should try to score over 2150 that would be crossing 4 SDs. It is very rare for someone to do this. Are you an international student? Sometimes, if English is not the first language people initially do poorly in the reading and writing sections then improve rapidly since the language not intelligence is the obstacle.

It’s gonna take a lot of studying to go up 1000 points. lol
