HASS-D Lottery

thanks mollie! i was feeling a bit left out there. =D

Do we get our instructor during the lottery, too, or does that come later, when we make the rest of our schedule?

The instructor information is actually already available for most classes if you look at the fall schedule. For classes which are taught by "staff" or have multiple sections, I believe you do get your instructor's name in the lottery.

For the HASS requirement, can we take 3 classes in our concentration and then take the two elective in the same field and then take another class and make that area a minor?

So, let me just make sure it's okay:
2 CI-H/HASS-D
1 HASS-D (Concentration)
3 HASS Concentration courses

2 more anything?

Secondly, does the essay mean anything? They say the lottery is random.

The HASS website says
Of the six subjects required for the HASS minor, no more than five will count toward satisfaction of the eight-subject Institute HASS requirement. Of these five, only one will count toward the HASS distribution.
So yes, you can turn a concentration into a minor, but you will have to take a total of nine HASS classes instead of eight (since one of the classes for the minor can't be applied to the HASS requirement).

Spartan, that sounds good to me. And no, your FEE essay won't impact your lottery placement (I think that's what you're asking) -- the lottery is just a garden-variety MIT lottery.

I didn't pass the FEE or get a 5 on an AP English. Do I still register for the HASS Lottery?

You'll have to take a CI-HW class your first term, and none of them are lotteried. So you'll register for your HASS when you meet with your advisor during Orientation, no need to enter the lottery.
