Hass-D

I was wondering if any current MIT students or MIT alumni had any HASS-D recommendation-any particular teachers or courses that you liked? Or any HASS-D courses that you would advise not taking b/c it it isn't worth it/was too much work? I understand that all the courses will require work, but taking physics and calculus, I think that I will definitely need to spend a lot more time on those courses rather than the hass-d (though I love the humanities as well).

Thanks

9.00, introduction to psychology, is really good :-)

I second the recommendation for 9.00 -- Prof. Wolfe is fantastic.

I also liked 21L.004 (Major Poets). I think 24.900 (Intro to Linguistics) would have been a cool class if I hadn't taken it when Prof. Flynn was teaching it -- it is kind of a lot of work though, with problem sets every week and a 10-page project at the end.

24.02 Philosophy: What's the best way to live with Professor Caspar Hare is the best HASS class at MIT. They grade way to hard from what I have seen. It's so good it should be a GIR.

hmm, i took that [24.02] second semester but i didn't really like it at all, so i dropped it. I think it depends a lot on your recitation instructor and classmates, since philosophy naturally depends a lot on discussion.

I recommend 24.900, but only if Flynn isn't teaching. I think maybe Norvin Richards is teaching it this fall and he's really cool. I don't know what you're thinking of majoring in, but I've found that computer science types generally tend to like linguistics classes because the subjects have a bit of overlap.

Another HASS-D I thought was pretty good was STS.011 (American Science: Ethical Conflicts and Political Choices). It did require more reading than I would have liked, but the subject matter was interesting.
