Hate speech and diversity problems at Denison University

Could any current Denison students post their impressions about the incidents on campus and regarding the student newspaper article that Denison was either slow to handle each instance or ignored it all together.

If you read the articles the first incident that was brought forth was a leaflet for a party showing a noose and saying something like don't hang around come to our party. I think it was just thoughtless not necessary a hate action. I think we become complacent about what the world around us is. I think the kids were more guilty of not thinking. When these were brought out and people started to air their views I think others just wanted it to go away. Hence the note with the swastika. Which read something like stop causing trouble and go away ( slid under the door of an RA involved in a minority group). The administration reacted to both incidents and I think they are trying to understand and to remedy as best they can. I think though it was important that the kids immediately came forth and talked, cried, and yelled there way through the issues together (for many many hours!). Hopefully they will be able to learn and grow and be more aware of each others differences. Denison will be what the soul of their student body wants to be. I am proud of the way the student body stood up and tried to see what was happening and what they could do to change it. The important change cannot be forced from administration but must come from the hearts and minds of their kids. I believe it will make them a stronger wiser student body (most importantly citizens). That is the reason to respect and look up to them not because of statements in papers or missions in advertising but because when it was time for them to say this is not who we are and to act they did!!!

rzz20 - To my knowledge, there has never been a current Denison student on this forum anywhere. As a parent, I've sort of singlehandedly advocated for Denison because my son feels he's getting a good education there, and has had nice opportunities there, but frankly, the vast majority of kids on this forum would only consider Denison as some distant safety school at best. I think that's unfortunate for all the schools that are in Denison's ranking range, because I think there are some solid, affordable schools in there that are easily overlooked.
