Hate these graphing questions.....

Ok so the picture explains it all...

Ok so to this one, I got E

And this one, I got C

<a href="http://dl.dropbox.com/u/33022140/Photo%20Oct%2001%2C%2012%2058%2041%20PM.jpg%5B/img%5D">http://dl.dropbox.com/u/33022140/Photo%20Oct%2001%2C%2012%2058%2041%20PM.jpg

Can someone please explain to me why I am right (cause I pretty much guessed) or why I am wrong (cause I pretty much guessed lol)

thanks :), I hate these kind of problems and probabilities >.<

bump…

E From f(0)= 8, that means y=8 when x=0 and because 8 is four lines up, each line represents 2 units. So when you find f(6) you go 3 right (3x2=6) and see that the graph is 2 lines up, so 2x2=4 or E

2.A. I got Abecause No points on the graph satisfies f(x)=g(x)= (3/5)x

for the first one:

Its a graph so the values on the axis must be increasing/decreasing in some sort of order. When f(0) the y-value is 8 ( as shown on the graph where the curve cuts the y-axis) hence you assume that that point is 8. Consequently you cand educe that the y-axis increases by 2 units.

Same thing can be said for the x-axis, when f(-6), the y value is 0 and that is shown on the graph where the line on the left cuts the x-axis, at a pint you can only assume to be -6.

so now we now the scale for the graph is y-axis: 2units:1cm and the x-axis: 2units:1cm. So all you do is count of 6 units o the x-axis (on the positive side) and then read the value for the y-axis which would be 4.

I hope this helped

For the first one, there’s a scale of each box=2 units. so basically, you go 3 boxes over (so x=6) and see what the f(x), or y-value is. Since the scale=2 and the y value is 2 boxes up, the answer is 4.

For the second one, you could sketch a line with an approximate slope of 3/5 to represent g(x), then see how many times f(x) and g(x) intersect, which is 2. This would even work with a line that had a slope of 1, such as f(x)=x, if you were pressed for time and couldn’t draw a line with a slope of 3/5.

hope this helps, happy studying! (:

lol or you can just do what cortana did!!!

the second one intersects 2 times. I know that because I got it right on last year’s PSAT…

EDIT: Sorry, this was for cortana, but due to me not refreshing the page, like 3 more of you replied, and I guess I got them both right :)

Sorry Cortana xD

and DMA and bimusoxide, your explanations helped me alot :), I understand it somewhat more :), thanks guys :)
