But if you're coming from an average college, which major would you guys rec. if one wants to work within the financial sector?
Econ or Finance? Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Fendey the answer to your question is easy: accounting.

good answer :)

I’d go to your career office and check to see what jobs recent grads got with the 2 majors.

i hate accounting; took classes in it and didn’t like it. i’m really interested in econ and finance, but i’ve been told econ is pretty much worthless unless you go from a top school, plan to get a masters, or do government work. that’s why i’m sorta leaning towards finance…

Ok well, if you hate accounting, pick either one. The key, however, is that if you are going to a school without a strong, famous name then you MUST do well. Try to get at least an overall 3.5+. Having a strong undergraduate GPA will give you a big leg up in the job search department. Frankly, your goal is to graduate at least Magna.

so tax. you don’t think me picking either one of them will have that great of an impact on my ability to get a job in the financial sector? i agree with you, i MUST do well, frankly i’m going to have to kill it in undergrad, then get internships and make moves…im looking at average schools in NYC for safeties, i figure why not be in the financial capital of the world if i want to be in business. what do you think of this idea? thanks for the insight!
