i submitted my SIR for UCSD and is determined to go but i'm reading all these comments about how even the current students of UCSD hate the school and how hard the classes are....
i know there are going to be challenges every school and i should just suck it up but im very depressed at the fact that people don't really loveee UCSD....
im more worried because im not passionate about this school for its prominent majors like engineering, bio/chem etc. i don't even know what i want to do .... so these comments just make my decision regretful and unsatisfying...

oh suck it up. some people are just little ****** bags who will complain about everything

i love ucsd. i really do. there, you got one comment about how good ucsd is.

it may surprise you but most people here (including me!) love UCSD.

Seriously… this school is amazing. I chose it without having any prior knowledge about the school (never seen it or anything) and I love it.

ㅋㅋㅋ 괜찮아요~

UCSD is an okay school. The atmosphere here isn’t for everybody though.

Actually, I might have to retract that statement. You see happyhappy up there? Yeah. There’s people like that at our school unfortunately. And I have to apologize in advance because not all SD students are of a similar breed to happyhappy (who apparently has no idea of the irony inherent in the username). But it’s okay y’know? You get people like that everywhere.

If you’re regretting your decision already, don’t come here. Seriously you need to choose a school that will make you happy. That’s just my opinion though

i had to write something because i felt really down…
i didn’t mean to contradict those who love ucsd. i guess i will never know until i experience it for myself.

Step off the bridge and put some big boy pants on. Stop caring what everyone else thinks and experience things for yourself. Hopefully, if nothing else, you’ll grow up in college and quit being so emo.

First of all, why do you care about other people’s opinions? Stop being such a drama queen.

haha thanks for all the advice? that i really need to take in.
im not over reacting or anything, it’s just that i can’t help it that my mind just worries too much? and it’s hard to ignore what others say.

all in all, my thread is just so pointless because all i did was to talk about my feelings/complaints which everyone will get annoyed of. haha never posting things like this again heree.

It’s all about the attitude, be happy you got in to such a highly ranked school this year. And it’s right by the beach, can Princeton say that? Nope! You’ll have regrets wherever you go, with the wrong attitude, but with the right one you could love a community college. :)

i know im very thankful for everything!
yeahh its all about the attitude…

Yeah.

I know a few kids that REALLY wanted to go to UCLA but “had to” go to UCSD. They came here with a **** poor attitude and took every opportunity to hate the school and used anything little thing to criticize SD.

Needless to say most of them never warmed up to the school because of the attitude they came here with.

I’ll be frank, SD wasn’t my first choice but I honestly still consider myself very fortunate to have gotten in and I’m having the time of my life here. It’s no use dwelling on “what ifs.” In fact, I sometimes think about what would have happened if I DIDN’T go to UCSD. It’s scary! I wouldn’t have met some of the best people I’ve ever met and probably wouldn’t have gotten so far into some activities and hobbies that I love now (like photography and longboarding.)

yunjh2725, I think your concerns are pretty legit. I was also set on going to UCSD, but after reading about some students’ thoughts, I’m thinking of going to UCSB. I’ve heard that the atmosphere at UCSD is kind of anti social. A lot of people on here will tell you it’s what you make out of it… Thats true at any college. But there is clearly something about UCSD that makes it a less social place after reading about it. I’ve heard it far too many times for it to just be a few unhappy people, it’s clearly a trend. That being said, there’s obviously people who like it, most probably do, so if you end up going there keep an open mind. But there are definately more unhappy people there than most colleges. I have yet to find out why the atmosphere is so anti social. Maybe it’s because most people are engineering and science majors?

yeah… i hate to be faltered by what others say but it’s really hard to follow your sole heart and decision. I had irvine, sd, and sb to choose from. it’s just hard when i don’t know what i want for my major… i think i didn’t have a dream school, so i just chose SD…

Okay, honestly, lets think about this. This is the kind of site that people go on and badmouth everything and everyone, because they can hide behind their computers. If you think this place is antisocial then you are honestly not trying at all. Get away from your computer and go make friends. Its that easy. People here are very nice, overall.

Sorry for my rant, but people who speak poorly about things they don’t know anything about really annoy me.

I don’t think your post is unreasonable! A lot of people are probably feeling this right now, and I guess all I can say is just to pick a school where you like. Don’t pick a school just because of its name, you know?

Good luck with everything :)

I think it’s stupid to say all the students at a particular school are “antisocial”, or “unhappy”; generalizations are never, ever right. (see what I did there? )
But in all seriousness, I’m planning to go to UCSD this year, and it WAS my top choice of the UCs. It’s an amazing school, in all ways. I didn’t chose SD just because of other rejections.
People who complain about SD being unsocial are usually the type of people that aren’t happy anywhere. If they were at Harvard they’d complain about all the work and the cost, and if they randomly found $10 on the ground they’d wish it were a 20. They are definitely a very small minority. It is important to note is that very small minorities end up looking bigger on the internet, as the internet isn’t an accurate representation of the entire population- think about that.
I’m also an engineering/science major, I’m fairly outgoing, and I’m a girl. So there. Quit generalizing.

You know I found a nickel this morning and GAH I really wish it was a dime.

Obviously there are going to be unhappy people at every college. But you have to admit, for some reason UCSD has a higher proportion of unhappy to happy people than other schools.
