Have a BS in Marketing but looking to go back to Art school

I graduated from Rider University, with a BS in Marketing a couple of years ago. I have a job in trafiic at a Phara Advertising agency. I want to go into graphic design, but it seems that I need to go back to school for a graphic design degree.
I live in New Jersey and I am looking for a school either in New York or Northern New Jersey. I really don't have a portfolio right now. I will be starting to gather pictures and art that I have made in order to have something to show for. I am considering going to a community college (art classes that could be transfered to an art school) while still working. This way I can build my portfolio and gain more experience before applying to art schools. does this make sense??? I've heard about Parson's but are there any other schools that i should consider? Should I consider Rutgers or any other LA school so that I can use credits from my 1st BS. I love photography and using indesign, photoshop and Illistrator - Is graphic design the right step for me. Do you think going back to school is a good step? Any feed back is greatly approciated!!

Do tell what made your mind to change your life !!
Are you hired to do marketing? Then what?
How long are you making art and why did you not pursuer it as undergraduate?
Why BS not BA?
It is my great interest now that I have a kid in the same shoes.

There is a good fine arts school in Rutgers.

don’t know particularly about graphic design.

I read couple times last year CC art course credit does not transfer well.
Look old pages and you might find answers.

If you are presently employed, an online degree in graphic design might be a good option for you. Look into SCAD’s online M.A. degree program. It is very good.
