Have a Q about LDs when applying to college - looking for someone to PM

The title says it all! I would prefer if either you are an an adult, someone who has experience applying with an LD or someone who knows the general college application process well. Thanks in advance!!!

Am a parent of a DD who has just finished applying for college. She wrote about her LD’s in the supplemental essay for UC’s (in-state), western CTCL schools, and some western regional universities. She was accepted by 7 smaller schools and 2 large U’s. She was denied only by some reach UC’s and Cal Poly SLO, which was OK–those were real long shots academically (science major). I don’t think any school denied her because she wrote about her LD’s; however, the essay was basically a success story of finding workarounds.

That said, she felt the most comfortable having the support of the SALT center, as well as the Disabilities Resource Center (DRC), at the University of Arizona. DRC gave her all of the accommodations she requested, based upon submitting her documentation and a 5 minute phone conversation with an intake counselor. DD had made up her mind early on that she could not attend a school without having her high school accommodations agreed to up front: use of a computer for all exams, use of a calculator for all math exams, time and a half in a quiet setting. It doesn’t sound like much, but it is a night and day difference for her.

You can PM me, if I haven’t covered off on your questions. Best of luck.

LD daughter currently a sophomore in college. We hired someone to do the search for us but we visited a ton of schools. We didn’t visit Arizona, but they are the leaders in disability services. We liked DU and UD…lol University of Denver and University of Dayton for the LD support. She did not go to either one, but found a tiny school with great support. I looked for those who seemed to be holding the door open for my daughter not trying to lock it by acting as if her 10 years of documentation was a ploy to get something (as if she enjoys leaving her friends to take a test alone). There are good ones are out there!
