Have a tricky transfer situation, please give me your thoughts

If anyone could lend their opinion I would really appreciate it, I am applying to CSULB this Fall 15 semester from a local CC. I am an older returning student in recovery from alcoholism, but as a result of that life I had a lot of bad grades from my early 20s. I got academic renewal on as much as I could, and have gotten all As in school since my return a year ago. So it comes out to 9 classes with As over that time. I’m a psychology major, I intend to work with alcoholics and addicts to provide therapy and support in the future and this is the path I must take to see that through. As for extra things I do, I am very active in my program and do a lot of volunteer work in that, but also in working with homeless. I joined the PTK honor society and the local Psi Beta honors in psychology club, it’s the CC version of Psi Chi, I am treasurer right now. So that is where I stand at this point, now here are the numbers … not so great but it’s the best I can do.

Fall 15 Application Deadline GPA 3.32

Any psych majors from CSULB here that have any advice or comments about the program, I would especially love to hear from you. I also just want to hear from anyone, I need some feedback. Thank you !!!

Congrats on the changes you’ve made in your life!

A 3.32 and all the correct classes should put you in good shape for admission.

I am a little confused by your post, the Fall 15 application window is closed and all but a handful of people waitlisted have already been notified.

When do you plan to apply?

Not to sound negative, but I know for a fact CSULB is one of the schools that does not recognize academic renewal. Just make sure your GPA is above the minimum requirements when you re-calculate your transferrable units with all things considered. Also are you considered local, i.e. (high school which you graduated from), if so that helps more than anything.

I mean I will apply this fall for the next fall which starts in 2016. I’m not local just from OC and my gpa without academic renewal is like a 2.9… Wow too bad

I looked up the policy, and I’m not a counselor obviously… Are you sure about academic renewal cause it says any collegiate level institution academic renewal is acceptable.

Be sure to apply to at least one school you are very confident will admit you.

I was in a similar situation like the OP, I reported my GPA after AR.

After I turned in my transcripts to CSULB for transfer, I was surprised to see my overall calculated GPA did not reflect my academic renewal. Admission & Records may have made a mistake but that was my experience. Fortunately I got in, I was also considered local, and when I returned to school I maintained a 4.0 GPA taking CHEM courses intentionally during the summer in my hopes it show my dedication.

I also applied to Cal Poly Pomona & Cal State Fullerton: Both Accepted, and both institutions had my GPA after AR
