Have advisor contact admission?

Hi! I was talking to my academic advisor and she nicely offered to reach out to some contacts in admissions if I have some. How could this work? Could this help my chances somehow? Thanks

What do you mean? Have you been waitlisted? Is she offering to contact them to give a good word for you?

I haven’t. yeah

Now I got waitlisted… By UChicago. What can I do to increase my chances? Any help would be appreciated

Should I ask her to submit a recommendation letter? Would admission officers talk to applicants’ academic advisors If I ask her to contact admission? Or anything else I can do other than writing the waitlist email saying it’s my first choice?

Take a look at theach U of C thread first. It looks like class of 2021 is done but that there may be an opportunity for 2022 if you do a gap year. If that’s of interest, having someone who can talk to the AO on your behalf could be helpful. At the very least, your advisor could find out if 3021 is an option.

I’m a junior transfer. I mean I still won’t rule out a gap year at this point but is it an option for transfer students?

you mean that it would be helpful if my advisor call on my behalf and just ask some questions about my option? dont necessarily need to say nice things about me?

@eyl1532 it can’t hurt for your advisor to contact admissions, but I would be realistic about it, especially since University of Chicago has an incredible low acceptance rate to begin with

Yeah I understand. I also wanna know in case other schools also waitist me. So it is normal for her to contact admissions just to ask questions about my options? should i do that or send in her rec letter, or both? btw im switching major so my advisor doesn’t know much at all about my new major

Sorry @eyl1532 , I didn’t realize you were a transfer. Your situation may be different. If your advisor can give your case a nudge, ask for the call. It could not hurt.
