I've decided to attend BU next year, and they gave me pretty good financial aid, but i could still use all the scholarship money i can get. Unfortunately i kept putting off applying for scholarships, and now it seems the deadlines have passed for most of them. If anyone knows of any good scholarships with deadlines in may and june, please post links.
Thanks

Try looking on fastweb.com to see which ones haven't passed yet.

Absolutely NOT! Many, but not all, have passed.

I got tired of reminding and pi@#ing and moaning at DS to jump on the schoalrships. And alas, it is getting late. Good luck to you.

While it is necessary to secure the balance of your funds to determine things like the amount of loans you need to take, or how much you may need to pay monthly on a tuition payment plan, you could treat additional schollies you may get as a windfall when and if they come.

DS is in same boat as you. Wife and I determined that we would be a little more generous with our Family Gift Aid, perhaps in Sophomore or later years. I got tired of his EXTREMELY casual attitude of applying for scholarships. This seemed to be the only leverage I have.

Kids have lots of distractions and it certainly is more fun to do other things than search for schollies, and write essays. But WAY better to do this in February, than May when spring is springing. Remember that for Next year!

Lots of free money out there in Jan and Feb, Come April 30.....not so much.

^^^ I share your pain! MADE D apply for a couple ... she said why bother ... I'll never get them ... she did. Now I hear, "I should have applied for more." DUH!!!! She gets to take out a loan this year. Maybe in the future she will understand the importance of a "measly" thousand bucks.

Oh I KNEW there would be plenty in the same boat. Congrats on your D getting some outside monies. I'm hoping DS at least gets something.

Kids nowadays (even some like me from yesteryear), don't seem to think that a thouand dollars is a lot of money. But when its sitting in a bank account waiting to be plopped down against a big college bill.....Well it sure seems like a lot of money to me (now).

I don't think that's it's really about us not appreciating $1000 as it is us being scared of getting a rejection. During high school, I applied to tons of scholarships only to get rejection by about 75% of them. Everytime I got a rejection letter, it hurt me a lot.

especially if I was counting on winning.

Yeah, vtoodler, I know that part is hard too. My son has spent a lot of time with scholarship forms and essays and for awhile there it seemed that he was getting one rejection after another but finally he started getting some "congratulation" letters! Thank goodness! So it is time well spent, even if it is only $1,000...they add up really quick. My son took the time to fill out something two weeks ago for a local $300 scholarship...that one won't pay for much but hey, it is money that doesn't have to be borrowed and paid back!

Actually, vtoodler, that very well could be my D's issue. She is not too fond of being "rejected" (who is, though?). That is a good point. On the other hand, though, I bet you were happy to have received the 25%!!

ok
im glad u have all found a place to vent about the laziness of your children, but i put up this post to help me find some scholarships that are still active, not get a lecture. If anyone knows of any scholarships whose deadlines have not passed yet, please post them.
Thanks

Ouch...you won't get much help that way src2011. Look into fastweb would be my advice.
