Hey, have any transfers been awarded yet? I'm still waiting. Their website said transfers will start being awarded in mid-April, but I was only just admitted this week. I have a 0 EFC, and really hope to figure out how much I'll be awarded.

If you have been, and you're comfortable sharing, can you also let me know how much you received and what kind of award it was (loans, grants, scholarships, etc)?

I haven’t I did read that it said check back in 2 weeks. So Im assuming you’ll find out about 2 weeks after you were admitted. And from last year people said they recieved $20,600. Not sure if it was grants or loans.
Hope that helped a little.

Thanks, guys. Guess I’ll have to continue being patient! Just really nervous about the amount of money. UT is really reasonably priced compared to other universities, but it’s a huge jump in tuition from what I’m used to at the community college. lol. Hope I get the scholarships I applied for so I can reduce the loans I take out. In the meantime, I just keep applying for more outside scholarships and such.

Well, ParleG, if you did a FAFSA, then you will at the very least get loans regardless of your EFC. So they won’t just NOT award you unless you aren’t qualified for some other reason (like you already have loans you’re defaulted on, past your aggregate loan limits, etc), and even then they would notify you.

I know they’re really hard to get on the phone sometimes, but have you had any luck talking to them directly since they aren’t answering your emails?

I read that the people working at the Financial Aid office are so rude that I didnt even bother to call them (Didnt want to spoil my day … haha)

If I dont receive any answer in the next couple of days … I will try to contact them.
Also, if i remember, I will post here how the conversation went :D

Not sure where you read that. I have dealt with UT FA office on a few scholarship issues over the last two years and they have been nothing but honest, helpful and kind. I think some people confuse “rude” with “we are working on the awards as we speak.” If you have not been award FA when you call, the FA clerk can’t pull the FA rabbit out of his or her cap. They are there to help you navigate the system. They can’t give you answers they don’t have themselves.

Since your EFC is zero, you will certainly get the Pell (5k+) and probably a few smaller grants. Some if not half your package will be loans, but they will cover your COSA. So when looking for housing, stay in the housing range for your COSA and you should be fine.

The person you replied to doesn’t have a 0 EFC (as far as I know). That was me. :D

And I know I’ll get Pell and loans. I’m an old hand at the basics of financial aid. lol. I know each school does things a little differently, though, and I’m just hoping I get stuff like TPEG and scholarships. Just don’t know how generous they are on the non-Pell grants/scholarships for students who aren’t in engineering and McCombs. Although, from what I read they like to direct those funds to the needier students, and I assume that would include me.

One thing’s for sure, I am fortunate in that I’ve lived in Austin for nearly two years, so I already have an off campus apartment, roommate, and job. :D

Sorry for being so nosy … I really want to go to UT but I am not yet a US Citizen and without aid I don’t think I will be able to afford it and I have to make an admission decision by the end of this week …

I got accepted on the 18th and was informed about financial aid today. You have to log into UT direct and look under financial aid and it will say if you have been awarded yet or not.

@ParleG. I checked on mystatus page on the label Financial Aid, there is all the information about what you have including pell, subsidized, unsubsidized loans. I ain’t also a citizen yet.

Got mine today too. Guess I was expecting an email, but nope! lol.

Got my total cost of attendance covered. Will probably turn down a portion of the loans though. And I submitted mine at the end of January when I did the original FAFSA form.
