I've maintained straight A's in all honors and AP's but got a D in the 1st semester of honors Algebra 2 during the first semester. How much would this lower my chances for accpetance?

my class rank is 42/460 now and I have many extracurriculars and leaderships/internships as well as sports. Would that one grade ruin my chances even if I made up that semester in the summer?

thanks so much :) I'm just so worried about my future now because of that one class

While I was not in your predicament, I’m curious as to when you took Algebra 2. Did you take it during your first semester of your freshman year? Remember that UCs only look at your sophomore and junior years of high school (UC weighted) and senior year grades to make sure you have a 3.0 unweighted. If you received the D in freshman year it should not make any difference at all.

In fact, if the D was part of your UC application upon which your admissions offer was based, then it was already factored into their decision.

The conditions of admission are only for senior year coursework, those that finished AFTER your application was submitted. That is when a D can cause revocation of your offer.

If it makes you feel any better, I got two C’s in my high school career (Pre-Calc freshman year 1st semester, AP Calc sophomore year 1st semester) and still got accepted out of state. If you had a good reason for the D (i.e. medical, family troubles), you could possibly mention it in a statement?
